"Great but get the SD800 IS and save $50!"

by mostinc on June 13, 2007

Pros: None over the SD800 IS

Cons: None except higher price and narrower wide angle

Summary: I don't understand the reason for this camera...go to Canon's site and compare the specs with it's predessor...they are worse in most categories...not by much but the only feature I saw was .2 more tele, a fraction faster and slow motion. Otherwise it has narrower wide angle, uses more power, and costs more. Right now most retailers are discounting this model since a new one is out. Higher model numbers do not mean improvement...look at the SD1000...more pixels but at a price and now it sells for less than the 800!

There are things that the 850IS is better at. 4x zoom, 8mp, red-eye reduction.. Besides, there are those of us who dont need wideangle lenses ;)

this is the upgrade to the 700
not the 800 which has a wide angle lense
and reviews that didnt even come close to the 700

    that said
this camara is too new to see if its better than the award winning 700IS
that might be the camara to buy
    BUT
    its holding its price

People need to stop writting in reviews about how they do not see why they upgraded the 800 or what is the difference.

It is an upgrade to the SD700 which came out last year so please stop comparing the two. Yes the only main difference between the 800 and 850 is the wide angle which is a huge deal to many consumers.

Compare it to the 700 and you will see the differences. Compared to the 800 you may not find to many differences but wide angle was not something i needed or wanted (i dont like the barreling effect i have seen with some sd 800)

i didnt mean to bark at the poster of this review it's just i have seen this posted a lot so far, the 800 and the 850 are both great cameras, go try them both out and decide for yourself
