    "Great Pictures and Excellent Video Quality" on by kristenclarke

    Pros: * Nice compact Size
    * Excellent Video
    * Great Quality Photos
    * Fast Start-up

    Cons: * Price - paying for brand & touch screen (novelty)
    * Touch Screen is not always responsive and need to use tool attached to strap

    Summary: This is a great little camera for someone who wants the quality of a SLR in a point-and-shoot package. I was very impressed with the quality of the Canon.

    I originally purchased the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W290; however, the photo quality wasn't great. Also, the Sony is very uncomfortable to hold on to. I tried it out for 2 days; however, the metal groves almost feel like they are cutting into your skin. I found it too irritating. Note that if you're looking for a camera with similar features to the Canon SD980, but can do without the touch-screen, can sacrifice slightly on photo quality, and if the groves don't drive you crazy...I would recommend the Sony Cyber-shot (more band for your buck).

    At the end of the day, I preferred the Canon. I've never purchased a Canon, and I don't think I'll ever buy another non-Canon camera. The photo quality is great. The videos are spectacular, and the compact unit is comfortable to hold on to :)

    "Hang it on the wall to look at." on by YankeeM

    Pros: Nice looking design, lots of technology via the display

    Cons: Very poor damage control. Display is way too large to hold and view.....NO EYEPIECE VIEWING. No case is provided to protect the basic essentials.

    Summary: I've got several cameras with a crystal display. Those seem to have more protection on this critical part of the camera than this Canon 980, and I have far more surface area to hold onto the camera during use. This camera was provided to me as an alternate to my camera that could not be repaired due to parts availablitiy. I would not have chosen this camera if I wanted to buy one as it has no eyepiece viewing for selecting the object to be captured, let alone the vulnerability of the display being damaged during use. I feel that it is a bad ergonomic design although it has some fun features.

    "Image quality is quite grainy and full of noise." on by Bamborocha

    Pros: Small, anyone can learn to use. Shoot video.

    Cons: Doesn't zoom in very much. Quality is sub-par, lots of noise, hard to get a sharp photo.

    Summary: I bought it to have as a spare camera in my Communications Department, and people have been complaining about the picture quality. It read all good reviews, and I'm wondering if there's something wrong with this camera, or it just shoots poor quality images.
