"Nice Camera except for one major flaw" on by bobacco
Pros: Wide angle to 5x, excellent lens range for it's size. HD movie recording is nice. Touch screen works well.
Cons: The Auto mode will not take good pictures indoors. Auto mode will set the shutter too slow for hand held shots (1/8-1/20) even though the flash is on. The ISO will be set too high (640-800) producing real grainy images.
Summary: For indoor pictures that require a flash, you must switch out of Auto and manually select ?Indoor? mode. The same shot will shoot at 1/60 with ISO 250 producing an nice picture. This is flaw with the firmware. I hope an update will come out soon. My older Canon cameras do not have the issue. Canon support agreed that this was not right. The noticed that the new SD1200 has the same problem. If your a person that always leaves the camera in Auto mode don't buy this camera. Unless you want blurry, grainy indoor pictures

just bought it for Boxing day, the indoor picture quality has not improved much even when I switched shooting off Auto mode to Indoor. Very grainy night pictures even with the help of face detection and touch screen focus. It's so hard to believe that my 5 years old Canon S60 still put this camera to shame. SD980 is a total disappointment.
