"FUN! FUN! FUN!"on by bcar50
Pros Very useful long lens. Easy to use. Did I mention the fun factor. Great battery life. Have not noticed the aforementioned soft photos or noise, only at the extremes do you have much of a problem with this.Fix in post . Camera body feels very solid.
Cons Not a pocket camera. Raw would have nice, but not a deal breaker.
Summary FUN! Useful for getting those shots that just would not happen without long lens. Not having to change lens is a plus. 4 out 5 stars
Pros Lots of features and long lens, well built
Cons soft pictures and not sharp at long telephoto.
Summary Really disappointed with the picture quality, not near as good as my old sx10 is. Price doesn't always seem to mean better performance in digital cameras, my wife's little fuji s1800 has a much sharper lens and produces better quality pictures than this. I will probably return it and wait for something a little better, wish I had kept my sx10. It seems like camera designers have pushed picture quality to the background and are concentrating on more gadgets and bigger lenses which we really don't need and are hard to control. It's really asking too much to expect to get very good results with such a wide range lens, there are too many trade off's.
Pros wide angle and super zoom all in one
Great for taking pictures of birds at a small fraction of the cost of a DSLR
Built in 720p HD video
Cons no manual focus
very slow shooting speed (like 1 per second)
not as good low light sensitivity as a DSLR
could not get it to focus on small, distant objects (eg a hummingbird)
almost as bulky as a small DSLR
Summary It is great for what it is. It is NOT a DSLR. But then again a DSLR will cost many times more to get an 850mm equivalent zoom. So I have a camera and I can take pictures of birds and I can take wide angle pictures all without having the hassle of multiple lenses and changing lenses. Considering the cost differential of the Canon SX30 IS and a good DSLR with image stabilization and video, I am able to live with the deficiencies and appreciate the camera`s strengths. And the long telephoto is decent enough for my bird pictures.

Pros Very well built with lots of features. Great battery life. You don't have to carry a lot of different lenses to get the shots you want. Its a joy to use.
Cons It would have been nice to have 1080 HD
Summary Great to carry with you whereever you go. You never know when you will need to take pictures of the grandkids, wildlife, etc....its extremely versitile without having to carry all the different lenses.
Pros Powerful zoom. Light weight compared to a DSLR
Cons I am guessing that the sensor size didn't increase as much as the megapixels when compared to the S3. The program mode severly overexposes the photos.
Summary A decent camera but not as good as it should be.
