"Exceptionally Useful and Convenient Camera"
Pros: Easy to use and carry, good quality pictures in 2 seconds from power up !
Cons: Hard to hold with one hand, Mpeg-4 format not Macintosh compatible, people want to steal it
Summary: I'm a Realtor and find myself wanting an unobtrusive but quality camera for a variety of conditions and circumstances. From high quality pictures of estates for sales brochures and advertising to close ups of water leaks in a dark crawl space under a double wide. ( I prefer the former). This camera is all I've been looking for. A great balance between ease of use, with enough manual control when wanted. Picture quality is good enough to satisfy a Pro-consumer photographer like myself. I have been using a Sony DSC-100 and a Nikon Coolpix 990 until receiving this little white gem about three weeks ago, and they have been neglected (except the Nikon which I use for Virtual Tours). Pictures are easy to compose then review with the incrediably clear and bright 2.2" LCDand very simple intuitive controls. When was the last time you used the optical view finder on your digital camera, be honest. The EX-S500 fits unobtrusively in my pocket, is ready in 2 seconds from power on to ready to capture those special but fleeting 'Kodak' moments. This is a very solid feeling camera, but I have found it difficult to use one handed. The wrist strap is just a bit short to have on my hand and still hold the camera and reach the shutter button. With a little more use I may not keep changing the display and flash settings with my thumb by accident as well. Final complaint, only a problem to the 18% who are Macintosh users like myself, is the inability to play the wonderfully clear DVD quality videos this little beauty captures.( I knew I kept that PC around for something besides a virus and spyware magnet) Really just minor complaints compared to the great balance this camera gives between convenience and quality. Your friends will want to steal yours too.
