"A Marvel in Miniaturization and Digital Technology"
Pros: thin, stylish, anti-shake, long battery life, bright LCD
Cons: no printed operations manual
Summary: I bought my Casio EX-S600 on eBay after doing some research on the internet. I wanted a go-anywhere high quality digital camera that's user-friendly with both auto & manual controls. Most popular but over-rated brands on the internet are Canon & Sony. What impressed me about the Casio EX-S600 are the specs/functions not usually found in the other brands and more expensive models. It's a marvel in miniaturization technology - one of the thinnest (just 16mm or 0.6") 6 megapixel cameras that can also take high quality mpeg4 movies. It has Anti-Shake stabilization for both still picture and videos. The almost 3 dozen "Best Shot" settings makes it almost foolproof. You can even revive old photos and straighten & crop shots of whiteboards and business cards. It has various filter modes for artistic shots like sepia, B&W, warming & cooling filters. The battery life is simply amazing - I have taken more than 300 shots including videos on a single charge. There's a movie mode that records 5 seconds even before you press the record button for that difficult to capture moments. It also has 3 timer modes: 10 sec, 2 sec & 3X shots. Other functions and manual settings like EV shift, white balance, metering, etc. are included that professional photographers will definitely appreciate. I would have wanted a bigger screen but the 2.2" LCD monitor is very bright even in broad daylight.
The cons about this camera are not that significant. The operations manual came in a CD and the model was EX-S500. However, I was able to download the pdf version for the S600 model at the Casio website. The unit looks fragile especially if the lens assembly is extended and may not survive a drop of about 1 meter high, so be sure to attach the strap. This model came with it's own cradle for charging, direct printing, viewing on TV and PC interface - which can be bulky but you will use these functions only occasionally.
Just being able to take precious pictures and videos anywhere and anytime makes this camera a good value for money.
