"Great Features but Pretty Poor Image Quality"
Pros: Very easy to use and loaded with cool features
Cons: Image quality is disappointing
Summary: When digital cameras first came out I hated them. The image quality was always poor. When I saw the Olympus C-5000 I was pretty impressed with the image quality and decided to buy it. It didn?t take long before the slowness and lack of features wore on me and I grew to hate it. Fortunately, it suffered a fatal accident recently and I decided not to make the same mistake. I bought the Casio EX-Z600 after seeing it at a tradeshow. I loved the ease of use, small size and the features are exceptional but after getting it home, taking a few pictures and blowing them up in Photoshop I realized the image quality was everything that made me biased against digital to begin with. My five-mega pixel Olympus produced much more detailed, higher quality images. The camera is advertised as six-mega pixels but looking at the images up close I think the CCD pickup device is actually much lower then that and the image is ?blown up? to six-mega pixels. This of course just makes the image bigger and does not give you six-mega pixel detail. If this is true, then Casio ripped me off and I will be very pissed. Regardless, the images are noisy and fine detail is often lost. If I could post images here I would show you the difference ? it?s pretty striking. If you are looking for an easy to use camera that is loaded with features and don?t much care about great image quality then this is a great camera for you. But if you are more concerned with image quality, then perhaps you should keep looking. After all, what are cameras for?

in this camera, it is reported that the automatic settings (for exposure, contrast, focus, etc) are not that great, but if you change it to some of the other more advanced "best shot" modes, you may get significantly better results.

Most digital cameras do not come factory set at the highest setting, so you probably are not getting the full capabilities of the camera.
