"Don't judge this camera by reviews! It performs much better than Canon cameras in this price range."
Pros: Excellent image quality. 99% of pictures are sharp and well exposed in every conditions. Easy to use.
Cons: Little bit lightweight.
Summary: I own an Canon G1 digital camera, and Nikon 3100. Nikon 3100 outperforms Canon G1 in every automatic or scene mode. It has natural colors, and normal exposed pictures with flash. Canon tends to overexpose all images. You have to manually adjust Canon to get perfect pictures. Canon only has less noise in ISO400 setting (Nikon has automatic ISO). Don't judge this camera by reviews. Try it first. It is not so slow - just use it with LCD on, my longest focus time was about 1 second in very dim places. Shutter lag? Theres no any shutter lag, maybe in the night scene mode, but in other modes, camera is very very responsive. Battery problems? I can take about 200 pictures (80% with flash), with LCD always on for shooting and reviewing (with supplied Nikon Ni-Mh). After a 1500 photos, I can say that this littl thing outperforms Canon in similar class. Also, colors on Nikon are more accurate than on Canon. Same goes for the white balance. And it performs very very good in low light conditions, just experiment little bit with exposure compensation and you will get noise-free pictures.
