"Not Bad - Not Great"
Pros: Compact, Easy to use as a point & shoot
Cons: Very difficult manual mode, very slow, must use only Lexar Compact Flash Cards
Summary: We chose this camera after our old HP camera died. We loved our previous camera so our replacement had big shoes to fill - and this did not do the trick. We chose a Nikon for two reasons:
1) Their reputation preceeds them
2) The camera accepted Compact Flash - which we already had a load of
The pictures we take are fantastic, but the camera is so slow that to use it for everyday things (such as capturing the moment w/ our little children)- you have to set the quaility of pictures so low, you might be able to get a 5x7 print. Of course even then, it is slow (with only a 12x Compact Flash) - we miss all the great moments.
Speaking of the Compact Flash:
Upon receiving our camera, we put our old Compact Flash card in and began shooting (the camera did come with a small card, but we didn't bother with it, since we already had our own 256 mb cards). Anyhow, when we went to download our pictures we found there were none stored on the card- sure enough we'd lost them. After some research we found that Nikon recommends Lexar cards for a reson - apparently they're the only brand that works well with Nikon Cameras. So after buying this brand new camera (and chosing it to save money on memory cards), we ended up spending another $150 on a new card.
We are now in the market for a new dSLR, of much higher quality. It's too bad our old HP died - it was the best camera we could have asked for!
