"Solid buy -- NIKON delivers the best color depth"

5 stars  | on by henrycykCN

Pros

1) Huge 3" LCD with 230K lumens/dpi clearly viewable under sun-light
2) Great lighting control
3) Superb shutter speed thanks to enhanced processor
4) Rechargable Lithium-ion battery
5) Impressive Color Depth

Cons

Nothing really... just being picky here... the nice chrome design finish on the top near the On/Off button and the Shutter button could make you feel like you're already pressing the right button.

Just takes time to get use to it.

Summary

When it comes to electronics, I'm very critical. Both my wife and I are care a great deal about image quality, we chose this NIKON S52 and never regrets it.

When it comes to electronics, I'm very critical. Both my wife and I are care a great deal about image quality, we chose this NIKON S52 and never regrets it.

1) Huge 3" LCD with 230K lumens/dpi clearly viewable under sun-light -- this is critical to share how the picture looks after you take it.

2) Great lighting control -- thanks to the legendary patented NIKKOR lens from NIKON's industry leading lens-crafting technology.

3) Superb shutter speed thanks to enhanced processor. Nothing beats more internal memory and functionality that actually matters. Fast Shutter Speed is one of them that you want when it comes to camera. This NIKON delivers.

4) Rechargable Lithium-ion battery -- unlike cheaper DC that uses AA battery, Lithium-ion is the way to go. You can go for 4 - 8 hours of use or technically, use up the whole storage of a 4GB SD card twice before you need a recharge.

5) Impressive Color Depth: you can see the reflection of a button on your shirt, literally! The maximum setting allow you to print 16 x 20 poster without sacrificing any pixel quality.

Highly recommended to photo lovers of all ages.

This camera is really sleek looking. it fits in the pocket easily and is a great camera for on the go. When using the digital zoom it can produce fuzzy pictures, but that is pretty standard. The functions on the camera can be a little intimidating. The menus are not as intuitive as they could be and like I said the features can take a little bit to get used to. Do not get me wrong this is a great camera and takes excellent pictures, but there is a learning curve to help get the best pictures for your environment. I actually got the sweet forest green color only available through Ritz Camera and it is pretty sick looking. When i pull it out it definatly has people looking as most people have not seen a dark green camera like this and are used to a much larger camera. Many friends have asked about the camera once they have seen it. the large LCD is usually a draw for it. I would suggest to get another battery if you are not taking the charger on an extended stay. the battery is quite durable, but once it notifies you that it is dying it doesn't take long for it to completely die. i do wish the camera had the ability to do panoramic, but with no extending lens you can understand. Now on to the red eye thing. I thought most cameras had the red eye thing worked out by now. I am not sure I am doing something wrong or not, but for some reason I get red eyes on my pictures. I am sure there is a better mode or something, but I havene't figured it out yet (learning curve). most photo programs(picasa) can remove the red eye for you .

in summary: This camera takes great pictures and really great video with sound. it is small and very pocketable. It is an eye catcher and wallet friendly. it does not take very long from turn on to shoot capability either. I do suggest getting a high quality memory card like the Sandisk extreme 3 collection or Sandisk ultra 2. It does have a learning curve and the red eye can be a bit irritating, but overall a great camera. I suggest it.

"Great Display but slow capture and red eye crazy"

3 stars  | on by vae4usc

Pros

The screen is big, clear and easy to see. Easy functions.

Cons

Slow capture. Red eye reduction is worthless.

Summary

We bought this camera mainly because of a great price we got at Costco and the size. This camera looks great but its very slow and the red eyes in every picture drives me crazy. We have two other cameras and neither has a red eye problems. The red eye ... Read full review
