    "Well, it ain't bad...."

    by h078 on June 17, 2009

    Pros: Awesome macro,
    Great outdoor pics
Lots of features (Preserve natural light, Dual shot with and without flash, vibration reduction mode)

    Cons: Horrible indoor/low light pictures
Regardless of which setting is chosen camera tries to force its own ISO choice
    Not so good sport mode
    Grainy LCD

Summary: I like the Fuji brand, I have owned back in the day two 35mm Fuji and never ever had issue with them. This was my first digital Fuji, I have Nikon DSLR and Canon point and shoot, and have owned couple other Sony and Canon (Powershot G1, G2, and G3) digitals.
I did not expect something of DSLR image quality but I expected something better than what I got delivered from this s2000HD.
I flashed it to new firmware but still LCD was grainy during shooting, and low light images (regardless of setting) were very noisy.
I realized that camera defaults in most modes to ISO(Auto 800) and you can change that down but once you turn the camera off and back on, camera is back to ISO (Auto 800). You need to remember to change it every time.
It has also very odd way of adjusting exposure or aperture.
Face recognition works well but it has issues in low light so it recognizes lighter round areas as "faces" even though it is only reflection from the glass table.
I used it to shoot my kids graduation and I love all outside shots but inside shots are real horror. I used all possible modes (but macro and auction) and different settings but still pics are grainy and unsharp. AF sufferd due to the low light and using manual focus in low light on the grainy LCD is next to impossible,,,

So I am still debating "Should it stay or should it go now?"...
I love look and feel of it (perfect compact size for everyday use with no need to carry extra lenses or flashes) but i am considering Sony DSC HX1 as possible replacement.
