"The best ultra-compact camera. Period." on by a484257

Pros: Reinforced glass LCD; sliding cover; fast xD memory format.

Cons: Non-extending zoom lens; no optical viewfinder.

Summary: As someone who uses and sells digicams for a living, I find that this is the ONE. Besides the Fuji Z1, I sell the Sony T-7, T-33, Canon ELPHs, and Nikon S1. The Fuji is the only one with a reinforced screen and a complete sliding cover-very important for durability. The battery holds charge forever it seems, the xD format is fast and coming down in price, the controls are intuitive, and it even comes in two colors.

The bad points are not critical and quite common among ultra-compacts-no viewfinder and a non extending zoom lens. The first is not a problem since you can see the screen even in direct sunlight. The latter can be a problem when doing close-up photography or zooming - the nonextending lens is not as stable.

Still and all, this is an excellent product that I would get myself, but I already own three digicams and two 35 mills.

"Top of the line Ultra-Compact Digital!!" on by jrmagoo

Pros: The compact size, Picture quality, and very User Friendly.

Cons: Could have a groove or rubber grip to open sliding door.....other than that nothing!

Summary: I would recommend this to any beginner for a first time digital camera. You get a very good product for the price compared to the others in its class. From the high quality of the pictures to the reinforced LCD, the Z1 is the 1! The power up time is remarkable with the slide of the door, flick of a switch allows you toggle between video and picture mode and the software package is dummy proof. What more can you ask for?

The only downside I found was with some close-ups it takes a little longer to focus but the simple solution is, back up! Other than that a viewfinder is not necessary due to the large 2.5 LCD. Im not sure that any product can be flawless, but The final verdict is: #1 on the list for me!

"A great, fast, durable, camera that fits in your pocket!!!" on by JFerrara

Pros: size, image quality, features, screen, design, and so much more...

Cons: needs a rubber grip on the door to help open it, and safty lock for vide to still mode... but that's it!!!!

Summary: It's hard to say what's so good about this camera in just a few words... Most importantly, it feels right. I've shot the Sony models, and it's hard to even take the picture- size does matter, and there is such a thing as too thin. The Z1's design is great- easy to find buttons, very comfortable, easy navigation, and fast- from live to playback, and from off to on. The image quality is very good for a point and shoot: very little break up, excellent color, and it's sharp. Also, the menu gives you everything you need and then some- b&w mode, and my favorite- chrome mode which boosts color saturation. Also, it has a natural light setting which is excellent for no flash photography while indoors. The video mode is a flip of a switch, and works great- even the audio is good. I have a 1 gig XD card and it will give me over 400 images on 5 meg, or 15 minutes of video- that is great. As soon as 2 gig cards come out, double it. I'm very happy with the camera, and I am a professional photographer who never owned a digital point and shoot camera simply because I didn't like them... until now.

"For a night out, flash is too weak, you get blurry pics; I exchanged this camera" on by samthemander

Pros: small, stylish, huge LCD, moderately easy menu system, durable

Cons: picture quality at night is terrible; the flash is too weak and the pictures are all blurry

Summary: I'm a college student, and I was looking for a camera that would be small enough for me to stick in the back pocket of my jeans, durable enough to drop occasionally (whoopsy), and still produce high quality pictures. This camera meets the first two requirements, and during the day, it even meets the third. However, night time pictures, or at least pictures taken in dimly-lit restaurants/parties aren't crisp. My old camera, which was a clunker and had only 4 mp (it was an olympus D560), took far better pictures.

I was completely in love with the form of this camera from the moment I got it-- but I was very, very disappointed when I loaded my pictures. I bought it online, but it's worth it to me to go through the hassle of shipping it back to exchange it. I haven't decided, but I believe I will either sacrifice size and get the fuji F10, or risk getting my camera mixed up with every single other person's, and get the Canon SD300. I guess if everyone else likes it, there must be a reason...

"Great daytime shots / ISO 800 is great w/ low nosie but has many problems" on by MarcoMorelli

Pros: Fast Lens w/ ISO 800 makes a good shot for low light situations WITHOUT flash. Great daytime images. Ultra compact. Great Design. Stylin'

Cons: Photos with flash are terrible. Many of them have over exposed spots. Auto white balance at night with flash. Photos sometimes are blurry. Lack of manual controls

Summary: This camera is great for photos during the day. It takes very sharp photos that come out looking great. It also takes great photos when there is low light (but not dark). ISO 800 really helps when light levels start to diminish. There is very low noise at ISO 800 (along with the other ISO levels). Flash photography with this camera is terrible. The flash doesn’t seem that strong in many photos but then others come out with over exposed spots in others. The white balance with the flash is not dependable. It sometimes comes out too reddish. This camera is not a good contender at night even though it is marketed to be one! The camera has very minimal manual controls. On the plus side, it is very stylish. It feels very well constructed and is all metal. The screen does not scratch. Uses xD format (fast but only goes up to 1gig as of now). It loads up fast. It takes high quality movies. It’s too bad that the camera just doesn’t perform well at night; I really like the look / feel of this camera.
