Cons:.Very Poor Battery Life . I even tries the NiMh rechargeble batteries but does not last long . After 7-8 photos the batteries get discharged. Does not click good photos in the dark . The image is completly dark . I did not find a way to put off the LCD display . No Power Button. The Live Video is Granular. Using Digital Zoom distorts the picture. The quality of the picture taken is very poor as compared to its counterparts.
Battery life: I've had the same batteries in my 435 for over a year. I've taken over 250 pictures in that time and the batteries are still almost fully charged. Granted, I make sure to turn off the flash whenever it's not needed.
As for a "power button" - what's the point? The sliding lens cover turns the unit on when you open it and off when you close it. Is there a reason to leave it open and turn it off?
Granular video: It's NOT a camcorder. And size does matter. The 435 records at 320x200 resolution. It's not going to look very sharp - especially if you don't have proper lighting. The maximum size SD chip it will take is 256 MB. So, expecting this camera to record DVD quality video is kind of silly, don't you think?
Digital Zoom: Digital Zoom is a pretty crappy substitute for optical zoom no matter how you slice it. It DOES distort a picture because digital zoom does it's tricks by enlarging individual pixels instead of actually changing the focal length of the lens array.
Dark pictures in the dark: Well.. DUH! Unless you're using special IR filters (which this camera doesn't support) or have a flash, you're not going to get much more than a black image in pitch black conditions. And even then, the subject would have to be close enough to be in range of the flash or else you're not going to get much.
That said, I have managed to take some fair pictures in low light conditions. The pictures were only "fair" due to the fact that they were not taken with a tripod. The pictures were taken while the camera was held in my hand - and few, if any hands are steady enough to hold a camera perfectly still long enough to get a shot without some wavering. Had I taken the pictures with a tripod to steady the shot, they would have turned out nicely.
The bottom line: This is a decent entry level and all around use camera. It's not a high end Nikon or Canon or Olympus. It doesn't cost an arm, a leg with dibs on your first born either. Expecting it to be anything else is silly.
