The good: Wide zoom range; easy to use; innovative Digital Flash feature.

The bad: Very slow EVF and LCD updates; no support for uncompressed files or an external flash; dock costs extra.

The bottom line: Its 8X zoom aside, this 5-megapixel camera rates as ho-hum for both its intended enthusiast audience and everyday shooters.

Review: With its 8X zoom lens, the HP Photosmart 945 is sure to make the hearts of telephoto aficionados beat faster. But this 5-megapixel replacement for the ... Expand full review
With its 8X zoom lens, the HP Photosmart 945 is sure to make the hearts of telephoto aficionados beat faster. But this 5-megapixel replacement for the Photosmart 850 rates as merely average. It lacks many characteristics that enthusiasts look for, including uncompressed file output and external-flash compatibility, and telephoto freaks can find alternatives that provide better performance and image quality.

"this is still(after 5y+)a substanial camera" By lawoak

Pros: it is a single camera bag dream. not that anything(other tha the meter and software)is perfect-it is a wonderful creative tool to use. this and my hp m627 were my intro to digital photo.in 2005-it was state of art and big bucks. GET PHOTOSHOP!

Cons: batteries drain quickly(i carry three chardged sets at all times). the extended lens plays hell w/filters(tiffen has a dedicated hp 800/900 adptr-affordible). the learning curve is steep-trust-you will accidently lose quality shots. be patient. try

Summary: todays state of art offer 8-10mpixel+. 5mg is archechic. given what i bought this new camera for discontinued(ie obsolete)-even with the dock was a steal. i shoot over 150 frames (apx 4 rolls 135 film)at a time-keep apx 40pc. asa 100-400: full light adjustments-this camera will teach ... "good but doesn't last" By canacool

Pros: good features zoom, auto focus great pictures

Cons: Automatic focus fails and zoom shuts down

Summary: My first 945 failed just before warrenty ran out and I received a new one. Now my second one has failed too. It appears as if the auto-focus and zoom wear with use. If you take a lot of pictures as I do because I work in foreign missions then ... Expand full review
