"Barebones, but super everyday use digicam"
Pros: Small, metal-body, easy-to-use, smart auto features
Cons: lens cover slides open too easily, no viewport, no optical zoom
Summary: HP has really listened to customer complaints and has made major improvements to their entire line of cameras.
No mechanical/optical zoom goes a long way at improving the batteray life. 4megapixels without optical zoom has proved better than 3megapixels with optical zoom.
I've used the camera hard for family picnics, sport shots, real estate shots, mixed lighting, eBay auctions, and the like, and the automatic features have been dead on. This has been the most improved aspect.
The camera is so easy to use that my 3-year-old opens it up, frames up a shot, and takes pictures, LITERALLY. No joking.
The form factor is small enough that it sits next to my keys and my cell phone. It travels with me daily now. It leaves me to my only serious problem.
The sliding lens cover opens too easily. This would not normally be a problem but this turns the camera on and can deplete the batteries. It can slide open when in a pocket or bag. It really needs a locking mechanism or something.
All in all, smart, easy, versatile. I'm loving mine.
