"Great all-purpose camera for digital beginner with some experience"
Pros: good resolution for cropping; beach and snow setting (great in Mexico);handy size and weight; value for money
Cons: flash distance is pretty short; focus and flash buttons are easily pushed by accident if you use the viewfinder (particularly if you wear glasses)
Summary: I held out for a long time before I bought a digital. I have been a keen amateur photographer for more than 25 years and still love my trusty Pentax K1000. I wanted to be able to do some cropping, so anything less than 4 MP wasn't going to do it for me. Earlier this year I was about to go on my first holiday to Mexico and didn't want to pack 15 pounds of gear. So I took the plunge and bought my R707. It was an excellent choice. It's great for outdoor photography, particularly the beach and snow setting. Took perfect beach pictures every time. The panorama feature works very well, too, as long as you can see the display. I find the convenience of small size and light weight far outweighs the minor limitations of this camera. I will eventually buy a much better digital, but for $325 CDN (including the docking station and cables), I figured I couldn't really go wrong. I LOVE this little point and shoot. I wouldn't want to rely on it under all conditions (such as trying to nail good shots in tricky lighting conditions), but for everyday use I would recommend it highly.
