There were so many digital cameras to choose from I didn't know where to turn. I took a chance and based my purchase on 3 excellent user reviews on cnet. I'm glad I did. My purchase price was $249.99 at Bestbuy not including the memory card. The camera is good looking, simple to use, takes great pictures and was a good value. I didn't like the cameras with lenses which extended out, I felt like this took time from the shot. The R727 has a quick shutter which opens with power up. I also have large hands and can work this camera with little trouble. Hopefully this can save someone some research time and when cnet does their review they will concur.

I bought this camera a year($179) ago and have taken tons of pics. It is so simple to use and edit with and the quality of the pics are fantastic. Some of my pics looked so great friends thought they were taken by a professional. The battery life is really long so you're not worried when it will go dead. This camera will also tell you what you could have done differently to take a better pic. Four of my friends have the same camera from my recomendations and they also love theirs.

Lock-ups and hardware failure

I bought this camera 14 months ago. I have had issues with it locking up which is annoying. Then one day I got a red screen and a 000000018-4489-957-000 error message. After researching, contacting HP and visiting discussion boards, I discovered it was a hardware problem. The long and the short of it is, once the hardware fails, the camera is done! It will cost you around $150+ to fix it and HP thinks you should pay that after spending $250+ for the camera. Of course HP believes that 14 months is a reasonable amount of time to not make them liable for the junk they are manufacturing in China. It is clearly a manufacturing defect! Search the message boards and you will read about the frustrations of others with the hardware failure problem. So, I am stuck with a slick, feature-rich piece of trash. It won't even power on.

Don't waste your money on the Photosmart line of products. I am going to stick with the traditional photo equipment manufacturers in the future.
