"Still Going"on by cheechzeppln
Pros great photo quality, can add widelens and telephoto
Cons shutter lag, lack of options to refine your picture
Summary This camera is still amazing me, I have had it for 5 years and it still works great. The quality of the pictures is very surprising for the 3.1 megapixels. Takes better picture then some of the newer camers i have tried. With the wide lens it really adds some versality. Anyways just wanted to post and let people know we got the vw bug of cameras.
Pros excellent durability, great pics
Cons need to buy extra dock station for ease of use and battery recharging. Older Kodak software sucked.
Summary Got this as a Xmas present in 2002. Great camera as we have taken on many trips, thrown around a bit and still works like a charm. I use the "sport" profile to take all pics as it has a fast shutter speed. After using this for a year, it was obvious we needed to buy the extra dock station (about $90 at the time) so we could just mount and press a button to download photos.
Kodak installs by default a "software updater" which constantly runs and will slow your PC down. Be careful, altough I did install the latest sw and it seems to work better.
Overall a fairly good camera.
Pros Light weight, , Durable, User Friendly
Cons Shutter Lag, Flash over exposure, poor digital zoom, minimal user defined settings
Summary This camera is well built, and has held up well for me. It is light weight, and durable, making it a good choice for the outings I go on in the mountains.
This camera has it's drawbacks though. If you are trying to shoot a moving object, or have a split second to snap that perfect shot of your kids, this camera is not for you. The shutter lag (time from when you press the button, to when it snaps the picture) is long to say the least around 1 second, partially because of its inability to quickly auto-focus. 1 second may not seem like a big deal, but it has caused me to miss many good potential shots.
When you try to use the digital zoom on this camera, out to 10.0x expect the pictures to get somewhat blocky and pixelated. The sensor in this camera, at 3.1mp is not good enough to handle a digital zoom like that.
The settings on this camera are very user friendly, but very limited in the controls of what you can do and change.
Overall I give this camera a 4 of 10, something good for your kids, or a first time digital camera to learn with, but not something to expect good pictures with, and not to be used to shoot a moving object.
"Design flaw"on by peterkent99
Pros Good camera for about 18 months
Cons Camera has design flaw
Summary Camera works great for about 18 months. After that, it will only power-up for about 5 minutes, even with new batteries. I contacted contacted Kodak about this and referred them to review sites (here, amazon) showing that this was not an isolated problem. The only thing they had to tell me was to make sure I used the right kind of batteries and to check that they are new. I advised them that I just won't purchase their product anymore.
Pros easy menus, nice picture quality
Cons BROKE TWICE!!
Summary Well at first I loved my camera- I received it as a gift Xmas 2002... Fast forward to May 2003 and it broke while I was searching for wedding reception sites with my mom- it wouldn't power on anymore, a flash on the screen and bam nothing, nada all my pictures gone! So I sent it in for "warranty repair" after spending 45 minutes on the phone with them. 7 days later I ot the camera back and had no problems with it until last weekend when the same thing happened. Well now the one year warranty is up and they are estimating the cost of repoar to be $125-150 and it is guarnateed for 45 days.... All I have to say is "I don't think so!" I realyl liked this camera and the easy share doc and the software that I have... too bad the product turned out to be worthless. I have the original sales receipt from my mom- she paid nearly $300 for it, plus another $80 for the camera dock... so a $400 investment, two years later it is worthless.! I don't think I will bother to get it fixed- i will buy a new camera, that is better and invest in an extended warranty.. Sionara Kodak- now wonder share prices have declined and the company is struggling.
