"A good camera for the price paid" on by dastvn
Pros: 8X optical zoom, multi mode for all of your picture taking needs. Quility / clear pictures. Definately not a toy camera.
Cons: Missing basic features (auto date and time stamp, detailed users manual). Buttons are hard to find (flush with top of camera)
Summary: If you take some time to learn the features and the correct way to use them, you will be very satisfied with this camera.

"Kodak gets a bad rap" on by jleary58
Pros: Has a decent lens, small size, relatively high zoom for an inexpensive pocket camera, great shutter response time, large lcd, hd movie mode, great smart capture mode (actually works!).
Cons: Essentially no manual controls - Program mode basically useless. No dial to switch between modes - have to go into menu to which is cumbersome. No option for manual focus, no maintain settings option.
Summary: This camera is a true point and shoot, which is basically why I purchased it. I have larger cameras with more bells and whistles, but I wanted something I could carry all the time that would provide me good pics at a second's notice. This is it. I have over the last month tried numerous cameras (from Lumix, Olympus, Nikon and others), and although some of them seemed more solid as far as construction or more stylish in general they could not compete with the responsiveness or pictue quality of this little camera - especially for the price.

"Takes good pictures. Shutter has been a pain." on by JesusDiedWeCanLive
Pros: Good picture image. Outdoor pictures in all lights are great.
Video works well and is easy to use. The volume levels out, and the High def is a nice feature.
Gives you a choice of which memory card type that you want to use.
The fireworks option allowsCons: The shutter sticks open while trying to take multiple pictures. Has nothing to do with the firmware update that fixes the problem which sticking while changing modes. Took me 3 weeks to get my camera back. Make sure you keep your receipt, and follow up to
Summary: I would have given this camera a higher rating if I hadn't have had the hassle of trying to take pictures with a shutter that didn't work properly. Imagine trying to take pictures of someone special, and having the camera seize up time after time. In order to get the shutter to close, I had to take out the batteries, and reinsert them to do so.

"first bad Kodak I've ever had" on by justwindi
Pros: felt good in the hands, easy to navigate, battery life is good
Cons: halo-ing in bright light, greens are distinctly yellowish, always in auto mode at start up
Summary: So I've been buying Kodak cameras since I started buying digitals, and I've always been very happy with them. When I dropped our M1033 camera, I went online to get another one. Instead, I made the mistake of looking for more updated versions of that camera, figuring if I had to buy a new one, I might as well upgrade, right? Well, as soon as I got it, I started playing around with it. First thing I noticed was that when I went to take a picture of my husband in the garage, the camera was having trouble, not flashing when it clearly should have, and the pictures were dark and grainy. No big deal I thought, all little point and shoots have trouble in dim light. So I went outside and started taking some pictures. Couldn't get the camera to focus in Flower mode at all. Took some other pictures around the house, then took the dogs for a walk. Thought i got a spectacular sunset shot, and some other ones along the walk. When I came home, I eagerly got on the computer and downloaded the pictures. Most of them were fuzzy! I couldn't believe it! The camera screen showed beautiful, crisp photos but the uploaded ones were not. A few weeks later, I spent a weekend at Hocking Hills with family and took a ton of photos while we were out. It was very annoying that anytime I turned the camera off to conserve battery, when I turned it back on it was in auto mode and I've have to navigate the screen to get back to my previous settings. Any photo that was in the sun was over exposed. I had halos around anyone wearing white. The greens were a sickly yellowish color. The camera flashed when it shouldn't have, and wouldn't flash when it needed to. I played around with all the settings, tried the manual ones, left it on auto...did everything I could think of to get it to take decent pictures, and I could get one of ten, maybe. None of my macros came out. It refused to focus properly or at all. I ended up getting rid of the camera. I found a c183 (I think) camera that was a return, for $50 and bought it. It took better pictures than the M585! Still, it had similar issues, with the halo-ing and having trouble figuring out the scenes in auto. I ended up giving that one away as well. I am now camera-less and I'm really hesitant about buying another Kodak. I might pick up another M1033 on Ebay though, that little camera was a gem. It took hundreds of photos on my vacation along the Blue Ridge Parkway and did a splendid job! But it seems as if anything more recent than that one has major quality issues. :(

"Excellent image quality, excellent performance" on by wfairley
Pros: Excellent image quality for stills and videos. Excellent display quality, camera fit-and-finish surpasses my expectations. Better than cameras costing twice the price. Battery life is excellent. Ergonomics are spot-on! Green packaging-no styrofoam.
Cons: Video recording sound is not up to par with the image. Remote control accessory is only for playback (not well documented). No micro-hdmi cable or adapters, only usb cable and charger. Zoom noise is slight but noticeable.
Summary: Excellent value for a camera at $300, but at $130 this one is a steal that should not be ignored. Still and video image quality far exceeds my experience with other P&S cameras, even Canon and Nikon products, as does battery life. Fit-and-finish is better than previous Kodak cameras in my stable, I am not giving this one to a family member, I am keeping this one for myself. Once I discovered the "IR" port on the back, I found and purchased the remote control accessory hoping to use it to capture wildlife and a few self-portraits, but after struggling to guess how to make it work (the documentation on using the camera with the remote control is very poor) I contacted technical support, which was not helpful the first time. The second contact resulted in an answer to my question (How to makthe remote work with the camera to capture images? "You can't do that"). Still this camera is a great value, especially for the price I paid toget it. I
