  • "PERFECTION!!!"
    on by Piz7777

    Pros Everything

Cons Have to download free firmware update, takes a couple minutes

Summary This Cam has more then exceeded my expectations! The Pic's are beautiful, the HD Video is the best I've ever seen on a Cam, and along with the HD Dock (bought for only $64 bucks at Circuit City!) this Cam is a dream come true! Just make sure you download the free firmware update on Kodaks site to the cam, it speeds up the processing speed of the cam and solves all issues anyone would have with this. Every bad review I have come across complained about slow processing speed; with the free firmware update, once downloaded to the cam off of Kodaks site(FREE), all issue's are solved. The 3.1 inch screen is a dream to look at, I cannot say enough about this cam. I would go as far as saying the Kodak 1253 "is" superior to even my Canon PowerShot SX100 IS, which I love!! Easilly the greatest Cam I have ever bought, or have come across thus far!! 10 STARS!!!

Pros High Pixel, 720p Movie Capability

Cons Difficult to Upload Images, Skimpy Hardware Inc.

Summary I really wanted to like this camera - it has some outstanding features. It didn't deliver - I've had to return the 1st one the day I bought it, and I'm waiting on the 2nd one. Kodak really cheaped out on the included hardware - No AC Adapter is lousy, and the USB connector is fluky. I'll update this when I get the next one.

    Updated
The 2nd worked fine - both my Apple and XP Laptop saw it right away. With the problem solved I was able to review some pics, and 1 moveie I shot. The pics looked fine at the 9MP setting, I haven't gone to 12MP yet. The movie was choppy and I'm not sure if it's the camera or the memory. I installed 4gig SDHC. When you get memory get the fastest possible, I will when I buy another. Overall I'm happier with the camera. If the movies get better then I'd score this a solid 9, way up from my initial rating of 4.

  • "Best choice i made, Awesome Camera!"
    on by questforeden

Pros Large LCD Display, 12 Megapixals, 1 gig SD stores 900 pictures at 12 megapixels, drag and drop video or pictures or automatically download to a specific folder when you connect camera, great zoom!

Cons Standard power cord is USB (connect to PC). Wish it also included a normal power cord.

Summary I have owned several other digital cameras and this one has exceeded my expectations. First, it has a large LCD that takes up the entire backside of the camera. The LCD is about 3 1/2 inches wide. Its easy to use and a 1 gig SD holds about 900 pictures at 12 megapixels (48inch x 36inch poster size photo). If you use just 6 megapixels you can hold about 3,000 photos. It has a good zoom. My favorite part is that it is smaller then my cellphone. I keep it in my pocket, ready for instant use. It has seperate buttons for picture taking, video taking, connect/transfer and viewing pictures. When transfering photos you can drag and drop using the camera similiar to a folder or you can set it to automatically download to specific folders when connected to PC. The picture quality is great, the flash is the best i have used on a digital camera, both with closeups and long distance shots.

As for the person having trouble with the USB cable. I also had the same problem. It turns out you have to push the USB cable into the connection device very hard until you hear a snap, locking it in place. Then connect to camera. It doesnt say that in the directions. So i tried all the help instructions before i realized it took alot of pressure to connect the USB to the small adapter piece. But, it works perfect after i figured that out.

I would recommend this camera to everyone. Its affordable, one of the few small cameras to ofter more than 6 megapixels for photos (this one offers 12 megapixels). Also can adjust iso film setting and everything. I am very happy!

  • "Big screen, good photos...While camera is functioning"
    on by ninjasaurousrex

Pros The large screen is nice, and the pictures are good quality. It's also very user friendly.

Cons It's rather laggy, and will stop working randomly.

Summary It's only functional when it feels like it. It stopped working out of the blue one day, sent it to get fixed, they sent it back broken, I sent it back again, and within a few days it broke again. Kodak was also supposed to pay S & H with UPS, but isn't covering the bill after all so it seems. Don't waste your time with the camera. That is unless you enjoy the hassle of sending it back every few weeks to get fixed again. You don't even have to drop it for it to stop working. You just have to try turning it on. Turning it on becomes a game of chance, you never know what you're going to get.... a blank screen is your best bet. Then the camera will turn off, and the lense will be nice and stuck. Good luck with this junk!

  • "Great camera in a great form factor"
    on by stevehas

Pros huge lcd, beautiful, fast pic tures

Cons hard to hold for big hands

Summary I already have a great prosumer level camera, and wanted a nice small camera to slip in my pocket when I didn't want to lug around my big camera.
The V1253, like many of Kodaks cameras is a beautiful little gem. The ease with which I can just pick up this camera and snap off fast, beautiful pictures still amazes me. There is no equal to Kodak's color management. The quality of the video is great. I also like that I can use the new SDHC format memory. Kodak's pioneering lead in digital photography clearly shows in this point and shoot pocket wonder.
The small size does make it difficult for me to hold steady at times though.

I wanted a small pocket shooter that I could carry when my big camera was too much of a pain.
This certainly fits the bill. This past weekend I had the opportunity to shoot pictures while camping along some friends with thier Sonys, or HPs.

Needless to say that my pictures were by far the best.

I was looking for a nice pocket shooter that I could slip in my pocket when a big camera was too much. This camera more than fits the bill.
This past weekend while camping in the snow, I was able to shoot along side my friend's Sonys, Canons, and HPs.
In all sorts of conditions, bright sunny, snowy days, camp fires at night, inside cabins.
On Monday we all swapped pics. The consensus was the V1253 had by far and away the best overall picture quality.
    The size of this camera
    the screen size
    the features
    the ease of use
    picture quality
