"A very nice pocket camera with a big size LCD screen." on by rsimister
Pros: 720p video recording with stereo sound
Cons: The audio circuits need better agc for recording
Summary: With 720p HD video recording, 12 mpxl photos, and stereo sound - all for $300, what more could we ask for?
Don't expect SLR results from this little pocket camera but for the convenience it gives me - I love it. I've got photos that otherwise wouldn't never have happened. I just pull it out of my pocket, hit the button and in a few seconds I can capture a photo, or a nice video in DV or HD resolution with stereo sound.
The sound will distort in high volume invironments but does great on average sound levels. I've used it to capture very nice sound effects on the go.
The photos are crisp and clean and I love the 16:9 HD photo mode. It gives me very good photos for family use. Best of all I can now capture family videos in HD 720p. The 16:9 format is the best part of HD viewing. But if you expect sparkling professional HD video, you better get the $5000 rigs..
A 2 gig SD card will give me 16 minutes of 720p HQ video, or 30 minutes of 720p normal video. In the 16:9 HD photo mode (9pxl) I can take 700 photos.
The menu system is easy to figure out. The operating insturctions with the camera are not complete. Go to the Kodak web site for a more complete operating guide. -
"If conditions are good, takes good pictures." on by kkorff
Pros: Good resolution
Good lens
Good size.Cons: Can be slow to respond.
No image stabilization.
Poor low light performance.
Can lock up.Summary: I took the this camera on a two month cruise to Central and South America, Hawaii and the south Pacific. Overall I got some great shots. The compact size allowed me to carry it in my pants pocket EVERYWHERE. The black body and display cover defiantly shows the wear, but the camera still works well after thousands of pictures, including closeups.
The frustrating side is that I misses probably a third to half of the pictures I tried to take. The delay from the time I pushed the button to the time the picture took caused me to miss many shots from buses etc. I got very few good interior shots because of camera jiggle resulting from the slow shutter speed and lack of image stabilization. A lot of time the camera would lock up, requiring rebooting before I could take a shot.
The 3X optical zoom is ok, but not wide enough for a lot of situations.
If you have plenty of time to take your pictures, and you aren't pushing the limits at all, then this camera isn't bad. -
"Easy and nice pics too !!!!! Wife loves it." on by Mason9214
Pros: HD, 12mp, simple menu's, 3" widescreen.
Cons: The cable and connector are stupid, needs HDMI out .
Summary: This is the camera for anyone who want's an easy to use point and shoot with high quality photos. The other brands are too complicated for my non-tech savy wife(she's still looking for the "any key" on the computer). I spent maybe three minutes maximum showing her how to work it, she has not had to ask me any questions about how to use it yet.

"Overall excellance" on by sangsangpub
Pros: Picture quality, more than adequate viewing screen
Cons: usb adapter can easily be lost
Summary: Astonishing picture quality especially if you have need to enlarge them. I have no complaints about the v1253 since I use it for work and fun. It's quite portable. My only user suggestion is to keep an extra usb adapter available in case you lose one, they are too small. Enjoy!
