"Great camera but annoying accessory issues" on by idahoann

Pros: I love this new camera because of the lens quality, 12x zoom optical image stabilization feature, and price. Image stabilization works great, easy to hook up straight to my computer with the USB cord, and is a reasonable size for all the features.

Cons: Comes with one use battery so have to order rechargeable (w/charger since no docking station). Kodak does not offer a form fitting case (only way to protect display screen and keep lens cap on). Easy Share software could be better & out of date.

Summary: I have tried other 8x and 10x zoom cameras the past few years in stores but always had trouble getting sharp point and shoot pictures even with. First one I like. A couple of years ago, I came back to Kodak after being away for over 15 years. I purchased the pocket sized V570 which has a wide-angle 5X optical zoom range. I found I used it much more then my Fuji FinePix SLR, with extra wide angle lens, because it was too cumbersome. While the Z1012 is smaller then the Fuji, there are still times when I will use the V570 because it's more compact. Just wish that Kodak would include a rechargeable battery and case and charged $25 or $30 more.

"Feels very sturdy and quick response time." on by SamSym

Pros: Excellent Zoom lens 12X and image stabilization. It has the ability to use large capacity SD memory cards. I also purchased a KLIC-8000 Rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery and charger. Kodak's EasyShare software makes transfering my pictures easy.

Cons: Non-Rechargeable battery supplied by Kodak, instead of the rechargeable system.

Summary: I really enjoy using the Kodak line of digital cameras, the make me look like a professional photographer - actually I once was. Set it to Auto and you are good to go. If you wish to experiment with manual settings, it is all there too. If you have looked at a few review sites for this camera, you will see complaints about the lens cap. Personally, once I put it on the lens it stays there unless the camera is bumped or turned on. I like having it pop off when I turn on the camera, I remember an earlier camera that didn't do that, and I lost a lot of photos. This is a much improved version compared to the earlier 12X zoom "Z" cameras: Z612, Z712 and Z812.

"Good pictures but very picky camera." on by djs4700pbd

Pros: Quick on snapping pictures. Like the different settings. On the regular photo setting makes wonderful pictures.

Cons: Don't be in a hurry to change from one setting to another or don't turn your camera off before the picture has processed It will freeze up the camera and you will loose all your pictures because you have to reformat your memory card.

Summary: Good camera but you have to be patient and wait on the camera to process.

"Great pictures, poor features" on by hoopensnooper

Pros: This camera takes great pictures... I've used all of the "dummy" modes and not had a bad picture in low light, regular light, outdoors....

Easy to use, simple set up. Menus are straighforward.

Cons: UGH! Eats batteries like crazy.

The burst mode only lets you save the first 3 or the last 3 pictures of your burst.

Summary: During one pop-warner football game (about 2 hours long) I changed batteries 3 times!!!!! I wasn't constantly shooting, and took no movies. Mostly I was following my son in the viewfinder, waiting for just the right picture.

Why in the world would KODAK make a camera that has the capability of taking up to 30 shots in the burst mode and save only the last 3???? I can't afford the battery power to take movies, then go home and edit them frame by frame for the sequence I want.

Bottom line? This camera may be a great camera, but not for the mom with kids in 4 sports, taking lots of pictures in one sitting. The CR-V3 battery that came with the camera lasted only slightly longer than the AA lithium replacements I used.

    Updated on Sep 15, 2008

After reading other reviews, I can see I was incomplete in my description. I NEVER use the LCD screen - not good in outdoor light. I am using lithium rechargable batteries in the camera, not run-of-the-mill AA. Good news is it only takes 2 batteries, so I have a good supply!
I am returning this camera tomorrow after owning it for 3 weeks. Can't say I didn't give it a shot, but I just can't see myself happy with this camera for the next few years.

"GREAT CAMERA FOR THE MONEY." on by swflcust

Pros: 12x zoom with no distortion.
    Great Picture Quality
    HD camcorder 720p
    Light Weight
Good Battery Life (CRV3 or Lithium)

Cons: No re-chargeable battery included in package
Only compatible with Lithium AA batteries

Summary: The lack of a rechargeable battery is a turnoff. But, I was able to buy a rechargeable battery kit for just $25 online. Even after adding this expense, this is a great deal. However, this model is 2 years old and I wouldn't have paid $325 in 2008. Great value if you find it under $200
