"Fun to use with satisfactory results." on by L.A.I.S.I.

Pros: Sharp picture, multiple picture settings, easy to use, lightweight, quiet, inexpensive.

Cons: You dont really need all 12 megapixels.

Summary: Overal this camera performs up to its specifications and I am happy with my purchase. Before purchasing, I had researched the "Kodak Z1285" wich boasted 12 megapixels, and a 5 optical zoom for the small sized, light-weight digital camera.

Being an owner/user of the "Kodak Easy Share C875" wich ran with 8 megapixels, and a 5 optical zoom(I was extreemly impressed with this camera), I found the info on the "Z1285" saying it was just the next step up in the Kodak Easy Share series.

More megapixels, same optical zoom, again with lots of cool camera modes to toy with, this time in a sleek black coated design. I bought the camera from Circut City for $179(amazingly inexpensive I thought, for its speciafications) along with the two year protection plan. So for a grand total of $234, I was out the door and covered for two years.

This morning I walked out to the two acres I live on and shot away. Close shots, wide open shots, small detail to insainly detailed images. I was able to shoot around 90 images on a standard 256mb SD card with the picture setting on 12megapixels(though the camera gives you the option of 12, 10, 9, 6, and 2), and the new AA batteries stil had juice though the memory had run out. Excited I went inside to check the results.

From the first image I could tell the difference in the two camera's. Thicker detail, shaper images, and the pictures had a more "being there" feel to them, rather than a flat faced image feel you sometimes get with basic camera's. They seem to be more "3d". Overall, very impressive exspecialy if you are just an average everyday picture taker looking for good quality. This camera will do you proud.

The "Z1285" also has a HD video-5x optical option on it wich makes it easy to shoot short video clips that are easy to transfer to your computer. As simple as removing your SD card and plugging it into your hard drive card slot. (The same standard 256mb SD card giving you about 7 min and 30sec of record time.)

That being said, I sat here and tried to think of some negitives for it and it took me about 10 minutes to think of any. But if I had to complain, I would whine the following:

    1) You dont need all 12 megapixels it offers. The pictures are huge when moved to your computer. The quality is stil excelent, but there is no need for all that picture. I changed the megapixel option on the camera from 12 to 9, and the results were even more impressive. It took even sharper, full colored, high quality images on 9.

    2) The HD video option it offers works great as long as you have a steady hand holding the camera. But being that the camera is small and light weight, small bumps or movements can result in sharp jerks of footage. However, when the camera was secured, the results were great video, sharp, without the problem of blurring even when I would move a pointing finger in and out of the lense.

    The Bottom Line:

For the price I paid, warranty and all, I am highly impressed with my reults. This camera is by no means the greatest camera on the planet. If you want to fork out a couple hundred dollars just to get a picture camera then feel free buying a Sony and so on. But this "Kodak Easy Share Z1285" is perfect for someone wanting high quality images from a camera that is not only inexpensive, but simple to use.

    Peace..

"Third and Final Kodak. It's Junk!" on by celticbrewer

Pros: 12MP, nice for well lit landscapes. Price. SDHC. 5x optical

Cons: Horrible in low light. Video is useless due to camera noise, flashes, and jitter. Short circuit issues. Macro mode is horrible at best. No view finder.

Summary: This is my third kodak. I still use my z612, but it's too big to carry around most places. Since I loved it, I decided to get a new, smaller, Kodak. The Z1285 looked great on paper- decent MP and sensor, nice 5x optical zoom for such a small, portable, form factor.
I tested it out and was disappointed with the low light photos- even with a flash everything seemed grainy. To be fair, it looks a lot better on the computer than the LCD. Man, that LCD is horrible! But it's hard to know you're focusing properly when the screen sucks.
I took it on vaca to the beach and the included batteries worked for about 150 photos and video. Then the trouble started. I put in some NiMH batteries (high capacity) and I could only take a dozen photos before they died. I assumed it was a battery issue, so I ordered through Kodak's site (using the compatibility chart) and I had the same issue:
I could take a few photos and then turn the camera off. The next time I went to use the camera, it'd turn on, the low battery icon would come on, and then it'd shut itself off. I called tech support and they said to remove the SD card. I did, the fresh batteries said "low battery" but the camera didn't turn off. She said to send it in for repair. Then I read online to tap the side of the camera. With nothing to lose, I did, and when I powered on- no "low battery" icon!! I put a new SD card in- it said low battery. I tapped it again, turned it on, and it's working normal again.
So, considering that, and that I'm not the only person who has come across the same issues, I would NOT recommend that you buy this or any kodak camera. The reports of corrosion and short circuits on the internals should make you look elsewhere! Finally, my sister's boyfriend works in a camera repair place (where you'd send it to for warranty repairs) and says the kodaks are the worst brand. Just another product made in China that's pure garbage, but cheap.
I used to love and recommend Kodak cameras for being easy, cheap, and that take great photos (I've had more than a few published). But this is the end of the line for me. DO NOT BUY!

"poor poor camera" on by nanryk

Pros: When it is working properly it takes good pics!

Cons: battery life, would freeze up, take too long to process, not focus, flickering screen, lense would get stuck open. etc... etc... and looses pictures!!!!

Summary: It took great pictures when it worked properly. Sometimes took too long to process or would freeze up also would eat batteries like no tomorrow. Lasted a little over a year then bit the dust for good. Weird cause I took excellent care of it & have had 2 previous easyshare cameras which were great. I was disappointed with this camera since day 1. I am not sad that it finally completely died! I am sad that it took a lot of my pictures with it when it died.

"Great Camera, Focus???" on by liammeaton

Pros: Great Battery Life, SDHC, Cheap Price and 12MP.

Cons: Focus, No Viewfinder, LOUD zoom sound!!!, Cheap Screen, Giant Lens and Horrible OS.

Summary: This camera is good for beginners who want an inexpensive Point and Shoot. Anyone thinking about HD video with this camera then, think again! The LOUD zoom noises and internal camera make video almost unwatchable. If the thing is under a meter from something it can't focus on it. No manual focus and the auto can't figure out what your trying to focus and on and just make everything look way worse by that loud focus noise just like the zoom. My friend gave me this camera but if i was the one who purchased it i would just return it! I actually found myself using the iPod Touch to take WAY better video then this thing.
