  • "Decent for the price and features"
    on by stubbs90

Pros Price, features, easy to use, HD, good zoom, options

Cons no dock or rechargeable battery

Summary I had a kodak easyshare before, and I know Kodak gets blasted for not being a bigger brand, but their price and ease of use is important for busy parents! I wanted something with a bigger zoom, but did not want to deal with lenses. Our last kodak worked great for 4 years, but then was zapped by moisture on our last trip.

We bought this after considering the 712 and thinking if we wanted to make the jump to the next level of SLR cameras. I spent time asking people about the differences and while people swear by their SLRs, they also paid more and have more to fiddle with.

We wanted something which had many of the features of the Kodak without the high price. I used it right out of the box and have taken probably 600+ pictures. The color is decent, in direct sun it is a little washed. I took multiple pictures from a moving train and they were great, even thru glass. The HD is nice, we bought the HD dock for vieiwing on our TV.
I like the various settings it provides for either choosing yourself or letting the camera decide, they are worth playing around with. The panaromic is great for linking several shots together.
It does eat battery life, so I would suggest getting rechargeable ones.

We have not had any problems with it so far, and hope we don't! I think it could be a little smaller for the weight, but I did not buy it for the size.

  • "I'm very happy with this purchase!"
    on by mystic-grapher

Pros zoom, image quality, built quality, size, features, ease of use, price

Cons weak audio during video recording mode, rechargeable battery not included

Summary the camera is of very good quality of built. feels very good in hands. looks good.image quality is very good, many usable features +some bonus features. camera tends to overexpose images in bright light, but there are many combinations of manualy set the various settings.such Aperture, Shutter speed, white balance, etc. you set one option camera sets the others. or you set everything. a lot of freedom, good results.

  • "Ok Camera, but some issues"
    on by jcil_rkg

Pros Light Weight, Nice Hand Grip

Cons Can be slow on Processing

Summary I purchased one of these to replace a Kodak z612, but after using it for a little while i decided to send it back. The main problem I had with it was after taking a few shots it would take a long time for it to proccess the picture. I had read a couple of reviews that commented on this, but i was hoping that it was maybe the card being used or the just user error. I even reduced the image size down to 5 or 6 megapixels with the same issue. It would also perform the same using the internal memory. I also uploaded the latest firmware from kodak, which did help on some focusing issues, but not the proccessing speeds. It does take very good pictures and video, but it can slow down just when you need to take that next shot

  • "Opticat performance Excellent, Audio recording AGC Distorted. Kodak should recall this model ASAP"
    on by bartsystems

Pros Hi Zoom, HD Still and Video, Fast performance, Image Stabilation

Cons No external Flash or Shoe, 2.5" LCD Fixed, No Video Pause. Sound recording bad with loud sound music, Very Distorted Unuseable, Cannot turn off sound recording, Accy len adapter makes shadow in wide.

Summary Nice looking, great feel, hi performance optical except for bad sound recording with 2 new factory sealed units from the Kodak Store.

The model should be recalled as it has an engineering problem with AGC and sound recording level with loud or live music makes the video and still sound narration unuseable. Kodak refuses to acknowledge they have a sound problem. Kodaks $79 C513 and my $30 cassette recorder record clearer sound than this camera. No feature to turn off sound recording. Otherwise a very nice camera. The faulty sound recording released without field testing will fail this camera out of its class of high performance HD, and High Zoom cameras. Do Not buy this model until Kodak recalls and corrects this serious sound distortion problem, or replaces all Z812 IS sold after they do correct this bad sound problem.

  • "solid features for a very good price"
    on by ridigital

Pros zoom, easy to use, minimal shutter lag

Cons bulky, will not fit in pocket

Summary This camera works well, the picture quality is very good and it is very easy to use. The zoom works very well and the image stabilization is good but you will still need a tripod for the perfect shot at low light conditions. If you just like point and shoot this camera will be more than enough. If you are an enthusiast (like me) this is a great camera to take in trips when taking your digital SLR is too cumbersome. The camera feels solid in your hands and is the least heavy among the other long zoom options out there.
The fact that you can use regular AA batteries if you are out of power is a great plus, but they will not last as long as the lithium battery that comes with the camera.
For storage it uses SD and SDHC cards
I have tried the HD video clips and they look good, but it is not a replacement for a camcorder. I do not have the high definition dock, so I just watch the videos on my iMac and they look very good. The camera is slow to focus when you are taking videos.
    Other cons:
unlike the Olimpus, it can not be taken underwater.
    I would recommend it.
