"People don't understand the point of this camera."
on by RobertpallisterPros Completely revolutionary, over time it will change the entire photography and videography worlds as we know them.
Cons Yes, it does not support Windows right off the bat, which was a bad move on their part. But they are working on it.
Summary People don't understand the point of the camera. This camera captures images in a completely revolutionary way. It isen't just a chemical (or emulation of a chemical) reaction to light with this camera. It captures just the light data and computes the image from there. You can't export it to a RAW or jpeg image because these file types don't support the way this camera captures images. It is like vector images vs rasterized images, you can't export a vector image to a jpeg without converting it first, and when you convert it you lose the ability to infinitely scale the image. Same with this camera, you can export it's data to a jpeg without converting it to a rasterized image, and when you do you lose the ability to change the depth of field.
As for the shape, I am guessing they designed it like the this because they don't know uneducated people to mistake it for a regular point and shoot camera. Because it is not.
Don't knock the camera because you think it is the same as every other point and shoot camera out there. If you are looking for a good point and shoot then your barking up the wrong tree. -
"It is a work in progress."
on by Video EditPros A Fresh method!
Cons It will remain a work in progress, till one of the 'Big Boys' pick it up. But there is too much invested in Lenses for them to do that!

"A real paradigm shift in digital photography."

Cons Insufficiently refined at this stage of the game
Summary A more dramatic development than going from tin-type to film & paper.

"It's a work in progress so why bash it?"
on by daiei27Pros - focus after the fact (i.e. less lag while taking shots)
- see details that would have been missed otherwise
- you can generate tons of photographs from one "image", or you can use the Lytro plugin for a pretty cool user-controllable experienceCons Restricted editing/viewing options
Summary Why are people leaving negative reviews without having any experience with the product?
Also, why complain about stuff that is obviously on the road map? They already said Windows support is coming.
This is the first generation so it's expected to be limited in its capabilities, especially something this revolutionary. I'm sure future versions of the product will support higher resolutions, more memory, maybe even a smaller form factor, etc. There's a lot of potential here, just give it a chance.
Ignore the naysayers here that don't know what they're talking about. They're probably the same people who dissed the Kindle and iPad and look at where those are at now. People don't like change, but this could really change digital photography for the better. If anything it's another option in a photographer's arsenal. I know as an everyday consumer I'd love to have one. -
"a toy at best"
on by andrup502Pros facebook integration is good
Cons no software support for windows so right off the bat unusable to 95% of potential customers. lack of functionality for pro's no adjustable settings, so no shinto art.
Summary if your looking for a point and shoot buy a point and shoot. Mine is going back to best buy. not worth the price for it's usability.
