"good but complicated for a "point and shoot"" on by moonmv
Pros: if you get the shot right, you're psyched--great quality
Cons: you may have to take 5 shots to get a decent one of whatever you're shooting
Summary: I bought the 4800 for $400 a couple months ago. I have 2+ years of mid-level digital camera experience: the bottom line is that it took me 2 months just to learn the basics of using this camera. I still try 2-3 settings for every shot just to make sure I get it right.
For $400, you should be able to get an easy to use camera with the 4800's features for at least $100 less.
But as I said, if you get the shot right, you're psyched. I take a lot of outdoor shots and the 8x optical zoom is awesome. Though, you need a tripod to fully utilize the zoom.
I took a zoomed-in picture of the fullmoon the other night and it came out great. -
"Great Camera Love the 8.3x zoom lens" on
Pros: Takes great photos! Lots of different settings to chose from. Use it a lot in snow. The snow/beach setting works great! Took great photos of the eclipse a month ago.
Cons: None so far!

"Great replacement to the 5400" on
Pros: The 8.3x optical zoom is contained very nicely within the camera body, allowing the camera to still be compact without looking or feeling overly awkward to handle or look at. Its 0.4" super macro feature appears to be better than the 5400, too.
Cons: The "lower end" of the coolpix line of cameras still doesn't enable for many manual changes to the ISO or aperture. But this is still a great point-and-shoot camera.

"Awesome....although a little expensive" on
Pros: Excellent zoom, cool features, and very user friendly, especially since the accesories are standard and not specific for the product.
Cons: I guess a bit expensive, 250 - 280 would be an excellent price. It was and is available at usaphotonation.com in this range, which I was not aware of at the time of buying. I got it from butterflyphoto.com, these guys do not match/refund the competitive
