"This is the perfect camera for the use I have in mind"
on by mdwyerPros The choice was a small camera or no camera
Cons No case came with it
Summary I have used a SLR and lots of lenses and gear for years. I didn't like the quality of the digital shots when compared with film, and the price of the cameras far exceeded the quality of the photos.
But every shot I take isn't for professional uses, and all of that weight and bulk mean I tend to leave it behind in the room more than I take it with me when I'm on trips. On vacation (New York City, most recently) I spotted this little Nikon in a storefront and bought it on impulse. Best impulse I've had in years. I read the book while my daughter shopped, and a couple of hours later was already taking gorgeous shots of the rest of our vacation. I took it with me easily in my shoulder pack, and the snapshots from this will print out nicely for vacation memories.
The auto-focus on this camera is great. With bifocals it now takes me longer to focus my regular SLR camera, but this speeds things considerably. And I have enough camera tricks to defeat the autofocus if I want to do something other than the standard focus in the middle of the frame shot.
Contrary to a couple of other opinions, I found the close-up feature very accurate and responsive. It takes a moment to adjust itself, it isn't a auto-advance rapid-fire SLR, but again, for aging eyes in bifocals, it focuses very nicely and in daylight takes very respectable photos.
I'll still use the film and good camera for professional stuff--I'm a Luddite. I hate to spend money on things that will not do what I really want them to do and will be obsolete quickly. Nikon has finally met my need for compactness in a camera, a versatile lens and lots space for my shots. -
"Excellent camera, easy to use, sharp images"
on by wsbriggstxPros Quick setup, excellent flash coverage in party mode
Cons delay to view picture is somewhat long
Summary I originally purchased the camera with a standard SD card. DON'T DO IT! Get a high-speed card like the Ultra from SanDisk. Major difference! I purchased the camera for my wife and she loves it - 400 images on a single trip!

"fuzzy, blurred pics for indoors and low light!"
on by mspargoPros great value, good pics outdoors!
Cons too sensitive to shake
Summary I bought this camera because it topped the charts for PC World, June 05 issue. However, both my wife and I found it to be a big disappointment because of blurry pics indoors, and because of lag time between shots. This overides any positives for us! We went for a Canon SD200 PowerShot and are much happier.

"Very Slow Camera... Buyer Beware"
on by bjordan10Pros Small compact size & user friendly options
Cons Terribly slow. Picture quality is inconsistent.
Summary Summary...
Painfully slow! This camera takes 8 seconds to reload between each shot. Picture quality is often inconsistent and sometimes blurry. Terrible camera for photographing children or events.
Details...
After much research and price monitoring I purchased this camera to carry along on vacation. After buying I followed the manual's instructions for setup and began taking pictures. Immediately I noticed that the camera had one of the slowest reload times I had ever experienced. It (consistently) took 8 seconds to reload in-between each shot! I emailed Nikon and was told that performance would vary depending on the memory card, so I purchased a professional high speed 512 MB card, yet still experienced the same results. I concluded that the camera must have been defective and returned to the store in exchanged for a new camera. Unfortunately, the new camera performed in the same manner. To add insult to injury, the pictures I developed were not all of the same quality. Most pictures were taken indoors under similar lighting, however some were 100% (beautiful and crisp), while others were blurry and looked out of focus. Taking pictures with this camera is very frustrating. It's hard to photograph children and I found that others were able to take 2 to 3 pictures in the time that it took this camera to reload after taking only one. I am not keeping this camera, and suggest that interested buyers look elsewhere. -
