"Compact and Light weight; Wideangle lens"
Pros: Great wideangle capacity; Lightweight; Programmable settings
Cons: Programmable settings are not easy or quick to set.
Summary: I chose the 8400 over the Nikon D70 due to the 8400's smaller size, lighter weight, and less expensive cost (by $200-300).
The symbols on the display monitor take a while to understand. Menu setting for picture taking is very involved, does not allow quick changes, and is not user friendly.
The memory card (not included) goes in backwards, so be careful.
The instruction book gives general but not very in-depth information. The camera does come with alot of features, most of which I have not yet explored (I use the camera for business shots of machinery, so I do not need to use all the features available).
Out of the box it is easy to use in the automatic setting. The main annoyance is the flash, which defaults to on if the camera shuts off or if you look at the shot just taken. You cannot permanently shut it off in automatic mode.
Overall, I am happy with this purchase. It fits what I need. A more serious photographer should go for the D70 however.
