"Next best thing to digital SLR"
Pros: Incredible images, colors and clarity rival my NikonD100, easy to use, Great pop up flash, Vibration reduction outstanding, excellent value
Cons: difficulty with focusing in very dark lighting
Summary: Have had a passion for photography for over 20 years now. I have owned a few 35mm SLR's and a Nikon D100 Digital SLR. Moved up from the Coolpix 5700 to the 8800 this year. What a phenomenal camera ! First of all it takes images that are close but not quite as sharp as the D100, which costs twice as much. EVF allows TTL viewing and is excellent quality image- it brightens in dark lighting and is very clear. This camera will satisfy all camera afficionados- especially those that prefer to set their own F stop/ Shutter speeds, but has plenty of auto setting also. Have used it at a wedding recently and to shoot action shots at a local baseball game (shutter speed 1000-1500 of a second with 10 X Optical zoom and Vibration Reduction). This is like a mini SLR- smaller and lighter than your typical digital SLR, but gives you images that rival many digital SLR's- for about half the cost- could easily be picked up on web for $500-600. You will definitely be pleased. Only drawback is a little slow to write to CF card- but Nikon is supposedly coming out with firmware update to speed this up- afterall- you are writing 8 meg size images so it has to be a little slower than your typical 4-5 meg camera. Takes about 2-3 seconds usually to write 8 meg size Xtra Fine JPG images to CF card. Much improved battery life- Shot over 200 pics at a wedding last weekend - many with flash and battery still had 2 bars. Nothing in this class can match these features and these images.
