"Nikon quality, superb features, great price point"
Pros: Great feature set, solid build quality, SD memory
Cons: Wifi feature too new requires software to configure
Summary: I have owned several Canon digicams S30 S40 S60 S200 S400 SD300. They are solid and have excellent features. The Nikon equals anything Canon has to offer as a starting point. Sony builds excellent cameras that have superb features and solid build quality. Again, the Nikon has excellent build quality and superb features.
From the black colour which gives it a sense of James Bond cool, to the solid feel of the body and the grip, this camera is great. The pictures are crisp and clear, and the autofocus and settings menus are complete and cover all the bases.
We have to remember that this is a $500 consumer camera and not a professional unit. It is solid, does what it is supposed to do well and is compact and easy to handle and use. That said, I liked the great low light picture capability. The video mode is great and the ability to zoom during video mode is an excellent feature. After all who doesn't want to zoom when making a video.
The use of SD memory is an excellent feature as the prices are coming down and it is still fast and cheaper than Memory Stick. The only two things that I found to be strange are Nikons model number scheme. P1 should be the lower model that is 5 megapixel, and the P2 should be the 8 megapixel unit. However it all depends on the analogy of the P1, it is the number one product in the P series??
The only other complaint that I have is that there is no compact plug in battery charger a la Sony. That is a great invention and both Canon and Sony have chosen to go that route, although Sony offers it as an add on.
You can't go wrong with this solid well made camera. Good value for the money, and after all Nikon is one of the best brands out there.
