"first test not so good"
Pros: wide angle lens
Cons: soft and washed out colors at tele
Summary: not good , first shots on full auto gave tele shots with soft focus and washed out colors. wide angle shots were better. I think the shutter speeds were too slow for sharpness. the electronic VR is a joke, it appears to do nothing. What is wrong with Nikon ? their point and shoot are so bad! This was my second try, the first was a L6, that thing is super slow to focus or do anything else. At least the p50 is a little faster, thats about the best I can say for it. Save your money, look somewhere else.

I agree with Joe. If Nikon is going to continue to court the point and shoot crowd, some changes are going to have to be made!

Joe... it sounds like your shutter speeds were too slow for handholding. Did you try it in better light? How about on a tripod or other stable platform?
And yes, electronic VR is not much more than a marketing gimmick. You get what you pay for, and if you want real VR you need to spend a little more for something like the P5100 (although there are many cameras with real VR in between these two from other manufacturers).

I wouldn't judge any manufacturer on two of their cheapest models
Thank you for the post though, and I'd be interested to hear what you think after you've done some more testing... especially in better light or on a tripod. I'm considering this camera as a pocket camera alternative to my Nikon DSLR. I already know it's a camera with some compromises, but I'm looking for something that will mainly be used in good light situations.
