"An excellent point and shoot camera!"
Pros: -Clear, sharp, pictures
-A lot of scene modes
-Small and compact
-Bright display screen
-Long battery lifeCons: -Flash sometimes gets annoying
Summary: I got this camera for my birthday last year. And before I even get started on writing a review for this camera, I want to say my Nikon Coolpix S210 has inspired me to be more than your average joe photographer. Of course I wasn't bad before and I was told time and time again that I had a great photographic eye, but I never really thought about taking photography seriously. Now I do, and I don't regret any of it.
-The silver ring around the lens gets easily scratched
-Have to take out battery to charge
But enough of personal stories, time to get to the details. (FYI, I have this camera in black, not blue)
-Pros-
I mostly take pictures of nature... and my cat. Beside the red eye from my cat (which is probably the worst thing about this camera; it dosn't have great red eye reduction), pictures always turn out crisp and professional looking. I've looked over some reviews and a lot of them say that the pictures turn out blurry. I have no idea what they're talking about, but they're probably not using flash or a fast enough shutter speed.
Next, the scene modes. Although I don't use them a lot, they're great!
They include:
-Portrait
-Landscape
-Sports
-Night portrait
-Party/indoor
-Beach/snow
-Sunset
-Dusk/dawn
-Night landscape
-Close-up (my personal favorite)
-Museum
-Fireworks Show
-Copy
-Backlight
-Panorama assist
-Image mode
So a lot of options to choose from!
Next! Camera is small... as you can see from the pictures above. But the buttons are nice and big to use.
The display is awesome! It's pretty big for this small of a camera, but amazing!
And lastly, the battery life. The battery life would probobly last me the whole day. The cool thing is that on the bottom of the screen it shows you about how many more photos you can shoot. (Pretty nifty, eh?)
-Cons-
You can't live with it, you can't live without it. That's how flash is on this camera. When you don't use it, pictures come out all blurry and icky (unless you have a tripod and don't move your camera at all). The pictures sometimes turn out looking like they are washed out with flash. But the good thing is that when you have good lighting conditions, the flash will turn automatically off, and then the pictures will be amazing (but you have to make sure your flash is still on...). There are a bunch of flash modes:
-Auto flash
-Auto with red eye reduction (dosn't really work)
-Off
-Fill flash (illuminates shadows and backlit subjects)
-Slow sync (flash illuminates main subject; slow shutter speed are used to capture backround at night or under dim light).
The silver ring gets easily scratched... what can I say.
And then lastly you have to take out the battery to charge. This causes wear and tear and what not. My brother has a different Nikon Coolpix and you just have a stand where you just put in it and it charges.
-Bottom line-
Great camera! If you want a camera to point and shoot and don't want to spend a ton of money on the SLR cameras, this is the one! Plus costumer service is great! ;)
Updated on Jul 27, 2009I forgot to mention that the zoom is excellent! At first on the screen it will look really blurry, but after you snap the picture, it looks GREAT!
