"Buyers Remorse.Nikon does not stand behind its warranty" on by MrShopper
Pros: Easy to travel with.
Cons: very average photos. The touch screen is complicated to use swiftly. Some pictures the tint and hue were off.
Summary: The lense extended accidently while in my front pants pocket (I must be the only one to ever consider putting one there), the lense extension broke and Nikon claimed this is outside of normal use (violated warranty) I will never buy another Nikon product again.

"fun toy for day to day use" on by westley864
Pros: easy to use display and settings
Cons: limited retouching options on camera
Summary: This very small and simple camera does exactly what people by it for, it takes picture anywhere. I've used it as a back up for my dslr and I've discovered that with a little bit of patients at a computer, I can create some amazing pictures with this toy. That being said, point and shoot cameras are not professional and should not be held to professional camera standards. If you want that kind of quality, I would suggest any of nikon's dslr's. The limits come from the user more than the equipment.

"Want buyer's remorse? Buy this camera!" on by Trooper527
Pros: Compact, inexpensive, menus easy to use, battery capacity OK, recharges quickly (less than 2 hours).
Cons: Picture quality and focus varies and is often unacceptable, particularly indoors. Video mode is awful. The autofocus identifies trees, rocks, and other inanimate objects as faces. Auto-ISO is terrible and sometimes results in hideous color balance.
Summary: My wife and I bought this camera as a replacement for our aging, battery-eating 5 megapixel camera. Unfortunately, we didn't do our homework and ended up buying the S220 as part of a package deal at a big box retailer and now I'm stuck with it. I'm pretty sure that from now until the day when someone on eBay to take this off my hands, I will shake my head in frustration every time I see it.
So what don't I like about it? In a nutshell, it seems like I spend more time farting around with the settings than I do actually taking pictures. I also end up taking about five times as many photos as I actually want in the hopes that there is at least one good one somewhere in the bunch.
I always end up comparing the S220 to my previous camera, if only because I've had it so long. The old camera isn't perfect by any stretch (its slow shutter makes it difficult to take sports pictures), but for the most part using it involved three simple steps:
(1) Remove from bag
(2) Turn on
(3) Take picture
The S220 adds:
(4) Fart around with settings to get a better color balance/exposure
(5) Take more pictures
(6) Repeat (4) and (5) as needed
(7) Pray that something came out OK.
I'm not even sure that it's good for a casual photographer - just because someone isn't a huge photo enthusiast doesn't mean that he or she wants everyone in the photo to have a bizarre blue tint.
There are better cameras out there. As for me, I'll probably go back to feeding batteries to my old camera until I can find something better out there.
