"Great shots, but missing a key zoom feature"
Pros: Zooms really far, lots of scene modes, comfortable and steady
Cons: Vibration reduction is a must for so much zoom, else pictures lack sharpness
Summary: I was just about to go in for this lovely looking camera, and it had **all** the features I wanted - included great short range shots.
Unfortunately, with so much zoom, its not possible to keep your hands steady. You'll need a tripod or a surface on which to keep the camera for the long zoom shots.
Other cool features include the fact that you can see yourself before shooting a self image... also, the large lcd screen and d-lighting (auto lighting correction) are great features to go with.

Just a quick question, how good is the video quality.
One drawback I've seen from many digital cameras is that you can't zoom after recording has started, does this have that problem?
Thanks. -
I bought the S4 to replace my slowly fading 6 year old Coolpix 950. I use a camera mainly for surgical photography, so the swivel feature is very helpful. Photos in the normal mode (l meg jpg) are very sharp. Exposure control is excellent. The only shortcoming is that the flash shows noticeable fall-off at the widest zoom setting not a major problem and easily remedied by slight zoom out.

Anyone looking for a compact camera with a large zoom should consider the S4. While there are few manual features, the pictures I've taken look fantastic. There is noticable purple fringing in low light, but this is to be expected from most digital cameras and can only be seen when magnifing the image by a factor of 5x or more. The D-Lighting works ok, but the cameras ability to automatically take out red eye is awesome! It works flawlessly and saves you time editing on the computer. Overall, I would certainly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a point and shoot that's small but still packs a 10x zoom.
