    "WI-FI is VERY Limited"

by mikeschumann on May 6, 2007

    Pros: Nice Menu Navigation System

Cons: Can't xfer pictures to home computer with WI-FI

Summary: I bought this camera for one reason only: the built in WI-FI capability. It appears that Nikon took a big step backwards from the S7C. You can only use the WI-FI to transfer pictures to Nikon's Coolpix Connect Server. You can't use this to directly transfer pictures to your home computer.

This is a HUGE disappointment. To transfer pictures to your home computer, you apparently need to use the USB cable, which itself is also disappointing. It is a combined USB, Video cable. As a result it is BIG!

This camera is going back tomorrow.

Your review is way to biased...you gave it a 1 just because wi-fi is too limited? What about image quality, design, etc?

I bought this camera (S50c) for one reason only: the built in WI-FI capability. But it took me awhile to find out that I can only use the WI-FI to transfer pictures to Nikon's Coolpix Connect Server. YOU CAN'T USE THIS FEATURE TO DIRECTLY TRANSFER PICTURES TO YOUR HOME COMPUTER. Even Nikonâ??s own customer service was giving to me misleading recommendations over the phone. And to add to my frustration Nikonâ??s technical support did not answer my email.

Iâ??m Nikon camera user for almost 20 years. This is a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. To transfer pictures to your home computer with WIRELESS CAMERA, you need to use the CABLE. This is ridiculous situation! Plus cable itself is a combined USB-Video cable. As a result it is big, and looks like amateur designer created it! Plus you cannot connect independently external power supply (during movie presentation for an example)! Plus you cannot charge spare battery while shooting â?? you have to buy extra AC-DC adapter!

THIS IS REALLY A MESS. SHAME ON NIKON!

I think Nikon has to issue an apology.

This is really a mess. With the Coolpix S7c I was able to transfer my photos to my computer without any problem. Just an impossible thing with the S50C: VERY disappointing
