"Great at everything but taking Pictures" on by VFXJ

Pros: Amazing interface. Very usefull easy to use Jog Wheel/button wheel. Very nice solid feeling camera. Great product design Good looking camera, Wi fi Worked Flawlessly. Inclusion of doc

Cons: Dark edges on pictures taken in sunlight. Poor Low light preformance when taking pictures (Blur) on auto without flash. When using the Flash way too bright. Color reproduction was also not very good.

Summary: I realy wanted to love this camera but it just didnt do what it was suposed to do (Take Pictures) Very well. I compared the pictures to ones I took on my 4 yr old Coolpix 885 and my 4 year old images beat the S6 images by far.
I returned the camera and purchased the Sony DSC-T9 and so far am very pleased with the images. It has a highter ISO 650 and image stabilization to prevent the low light no flash image blurryness that the s6 is prone to. The Sony is however missing WIFI and A doc
    But you cant have everything.

"A great camera for the money." on by trenta200

Pros: Slim, Sleek, Wi-Fi Capabilities, Easy to use

Cons: Can't set a shutter speed, Will blur if there is too much movement, even in sport mode.

Summary: I bought this camera not too long ago after deciding not to spend the extra $200 on the new S7C (I paid $160 for it, which should be the norm when the S7C actually comes out). This camera is quite amazing for the retail price (~$290). It can easily fit into my pants or jacket pocket and looks amazing.

Many people say that there's a lot of blur on this camera, and the scene modes add to it. First off, this is in the "ultracompact" class, which means it sacafices some performance for a smaller size. Most cameras in this class will blur with excessive movement, unless you're willing to pay a significantly higher price. Also, if any one has ever read the manual, some of the modes are specifically meant to blur the background or foreground, as well as the entire picture. That's also a big plus for me, since I try to use blur to the best possible effect. If you use the sports mode, it will increase shutter speed, hence reducing blur, but to an extent. If there is a great amount of movement, it will probably blur any way.

My main concern is that you can't adjust the shutter speed, which is a major drawback for me. However, they try to compensate for this by providing many scene settings with various shutter speeds (like the "fireworks show" setting). Ths works well enough but doesn't give you as much freedom as manually adjusting the shutter speed.

Other than that, it's a great camera. Other than the Scene Selector, you really don't need the manual at all, since it's pretty straightforward. The scroll wheel is amazing and reduces the cluttered look that some other cameras have (a.k.a. the cyber-shot).The Wi-Fi can be very complicated or very easy to use depending on your familiarity with wireless networking. Reading that in the manual will pretty much clear up all the problems you might be having. This doesn't mean that the Wi-Fi is amazing howeer. It will only seve some basic functions, so using the cable will be much more comfortable. Also, if you dislike the dock, you can plug the camera directly into the power cord without problems.

Also, although I havn't tried it yet, I've heard that the Pictmotion software doesn't work with Macs, so if you're buying this camera soley for this feature, and only have a mac, you might have to start looking for an alternative, but I doubt any one like that exists.

"Spectacular photo quality for a ultracompact camera" on by grazianos

Pros: Picture quality; size; batter life; click wheel; screen

    Cons: Top buttons; lens placement

Summary: Bought this camera a few months ago and almost always get asked what kind of camera I use when people see the pictures. The photos are amazing. I almost never use the flash, as the lens is very good at taking in light (I'm sure there's a techinical term for this). The huge screen is great for sharing pictures. The click wheel is great if you have large hands. I hate the tiny push-buttons on my wife's camera. No real complaints except for the buttons on top aren't that great and my finish (charcoal gray) gets finger prints on it easily.

"Great easy to use camera" on by sammy2588

Pros: Lots of cool features (QuickTime movies, time laps, slide show with music, etc.) and very easy to use, and very good looking pictures.

    Cons: Limited zoom capabilities

Summary: I bought this camera for my wife. I actually bought the S5 (same as S6 but without wireless capabilities). I own a D70 and many professional lenses. My wife wanted something that's easy to use. I wanted to make sure that I picked a camera that had many features but simple to use. I was not looking for advance functionalities since my D70 takes care of that. Bottom line: this is a great buy as a secondary camera for non-techies.

"a waste of money and time" on by sharkey

Pros: cute, small, lot of scene options

Cons: blurry pictures, bad auto focus, scene options add to blur

Summary: I bought this camera a couple days after it was released. I did some research and most reviewers said that it was really good. Well that's not the case. The S6 is a huge disappointment. Not only is the picture quality bad, but almost every picture in the scene modes are blurry. The only really good thing about this camera is the wifi and the compactness, but doesn't mean a thing when the pictures suck.
