"Tried it, buying it -- AWESOME!!"
Pros: Sharp, accurate, high res photos; Amazing focus and metering; Great ergonomics; F5 like!
Cons: Fill the view finder with wider view prism
Summary: What do you get when you combine the best that Sony CMOS has to offer with the best in pro camera design? Nikon D2X! Very smart play Nikon teaming with Sony for sensors. Sony dominates digital CMOS/CCD technology in the high-end markets (Motion Picture and Studio)
Getting ready for investment in a digital SLR. Rented D2X and 1Ds Mark II from local pro shop. Honestly, No question, D2X! Better where it counts -- Sharpness/clarity, color accuracy, focusing, metering and ergonomics; and of course $3,000 cheaper.
For those techno idiots lamenting about the lack of 35MM sensor size, what a joke. Acutally, ideally, I'd prefer my sensor to be a 2.5 X 2.5 CMOS sensor at 64 megapixel. Good grief. These are the same people that would have you believe that their $500 stereo producing 1,000 watts and with blinking console lights is the best Hi-FI or that their 300 horsepower Chevy is better than european performance. Its not about size, its how you use it!
Just as in HI-FI, trust your ears. In digital photography, its about what you see. If you try this camera, you will see!!
My opinion, and I had no bias toward either manufacturer, this is now the best digital SLR there is. Nikon is a smaller compnay that is focused on one bread-and-butter business. I'm glad to see the little guy come back on top, that I admit. In the end, we consumers need competition to generate innovation. We should all be happy that Nikon just raised the bar.
