"A sports photographers dream camera!" on by WKeith
Pros: Light, very easy to understand controls, ergonomically balanced
Cons: Needs a spare LI battery and larger XD memory.
Summary: This little gem is a bargain at less than $300. It's capable of 10X optical zoom (GREAT for sports photography), and with its digital enhancement, brings you to 40X!
The clarity, balance, and ease of use make this one of the top cameras for beginner, intermediate, and high-end amateurs.
Must have extras:
Spare L-Ion battery
256MB XD Card (128MB is also acceptable)
Lens converter with a good UV lens (for protecting the camera's optics).
Screen protectors to keep your fingerprints off the viewfinder.
A good camera case is needed to fit all the extras.
I've been looking for over 2 years for the perfect fit (I shoot a lot of sports photos), and I was tired of lugging around my 40-300mm, 400mm and 600mm lenses with my SLR.
I don't believe any camera is worth a 10, but this one comes in with a close 9, if it had RAW ability, it would top out at 9.8 -
"Fantastic pictures with brilliant color" on by conaghan
Pros: Picture quality
Cons: Slightly large size
Summary: I've researched cameras extensively and in most reviews it's very difficult to find information on picture quality. Often it's not there at all, or it's lost among the explinations of all the bells and whistles. This camera takes beautiful pictures. I want to frame every one. The colors and hues are bright, true and wonderful. Isn't this what a camera is supposed to do?

"Great all-around camera with outdoor emphasis!" on
Pros: As with my last camera, I spent a fair amount of time on this and other review sites before purchasing. My observation: make sure your intended choice will serve YOUR needs, not others,' and you'll be a lot happier...too many negative reviews come from pe
Cons: Lack of manual focus in video mode...this is about the only thing keeping me from giving this one a perfect review.

"Excellent camera for cheap price." on by dkramb
Pros: Packed with features and loads of automatic and manual settings.
Cons: No automatic image stabilization, tripod required.
Summary: Battery drains quickly if you use flash, so extra batteries are a must. Shop around, you can find them dirt cheap... name brand at that. Get extra memory cards, too. Tons of accessories are available on the market to exand the capabilities of this already feature-packed camera. Image stabilization seems to be the biggest problem I've encountered... but a tripod can solve that. It's only an issue when using telephoto or macro modes. You can't beat the bang for the buck. I highly recommend it. I can't understand why a previous cnet user rated it as mediocre (5). That's just nuts.

"very good value, but with quirks" on
Pros: feature packed for the money. fairly compact for a 10x zoom cam. more bang/buck than current competition (canon powershot S1). robust manual override controls.
Cons: camedia software doesn't allow editing (deleting) of images from pc (unlike canon). ergonomics and design slightly "generic" and cheap feeling (i.e. cheesy usb door, lens housing rattles). no image stabilization (useful on long zoom shots). default sett
