"The reviewer got it wrong."
Pros: Beautiful image quality, fast lens
Cons: LCD is poorly designed
Summary: The review was stingy and snippy. This camera has gotten excellent reviews from almost every other source. I've owned it for over a year now, and have shot thousands of photos with it, under all kinds of situations. I can honestly say if you are thinking about getting a 8 MP digicam (that is not dSLR), do not even think about another camera but the Olympus. I tried the Sony and the Canon, and this Olympus has both of them beat in image quality and usability. Startup is less than 1 sec. It takes gorgeous low-noise photos in low light situations. Most digicams can take decent photos in full sunlight, but many cannot handle indoor low light shots. I just used it to take pictures of my daughter's baptism. I did not use flash at all. All the pictures were taken at 400 ISO in a darkend church, but they turned out great. Clean, crisp, sharp, speckle-free. I was a long-time Canon (owned 2 of their SLRs and the G5 digicam) user before I made the switch to the Olympus. Never looked back, and never have been happier with my digital photos. This Olympus has weaned me permanently from my film cameras. My prints don't "rival" film, the EXCEED 35mm prints. You MUST get this camera if you want an 8 MP digicam.

Pinto has got the line on this prosumer. The 8080 is a great camera. Sometimes, reviewers jump to conclusions. Thanx, Pinto!

I have had the C8080 since over 2 years; I have lugged it through the jungles of Malaysia in hot & humid conditions;in India through the monsoons; I live and work in Dubai where the temp shoots to 45 deg C in summer and have taken macro shots of interesting medical conditions(I'm an ED physician), every imaginable indoor and outdoor photos and they have all turned out spectacular. Ok, the camera is a bit heavy and the settings take some time to get adjusted to, but you cant have your cake and eat it too!!!

I agree with pinto somewhat. The 8080 has a lower rating then deserved. It has the best quality images of all cameras. Every professional review has this camera at the top of their list. it is the 2004 platnium winner for digital cameras! This is the main point of buying a camera. Still there are other point's of a good camera, such as ease of use, options, build quality Ect.Let's just say if this camera were combined with a Konica/Minolta Diamge A2. it would absolutely be the best camera available anywhere at anyprice in the Digital prosumer arena!

When it comes to the plethora of quality 8-megapixel P&s's now available from all the big guns like Canon, Nikon and Minolta, its all about the picture quality. Yes the Olympus costs more but the much better lens quality is likely the key factor in the higher MSRP. It is this large fast glass that is responsible for the stunning photo quality obtainable with this camera. No other maker's offerings in this category even come close ( especially in low light). My only gripe is the wish for a faster ISO ( 1600 would have been nice) but all things being equal maybe Olympus is correct in surmising that with the great lens you wouldn't really ever need 1600 ISO. If you don't need a huge focal range this camera is every bit the equal of the D-Rebel and even Olympus'own E-volt 300. If you find one of these on sale, BUY IT.
