"In general great, minor quibbles" on by dmperlman

Pros: Fantastic resolution, automatic settings easy

Cons: Flash on macro setting, non-automatic use

Summary: Overall, I love this camera, and 95% of the time I use it for photos that turn out spectacularly well. Recently I started doing a little "closeup" macro photography and discovered the only major flaw I've found - the placement of the flash is such that if it goes off on a macro shot where you're closer than about 14 inches away from the subject, you get a shadow of the lens obscuring the lower left corner of the photo. Most of the time I can compensate by turning off the flash and using other lighting, but sometimes I'm in a situation where I can't. I also wish the non-automatich, i.e., point and shoot, settings were a little easier to figure out, but once you do it once, it's not hard to do again.

"All you can ask for in a Quality Olympus product" on

Pros: Great camera. Does a terrific job on high quality photographs or snap shots for email. Terrific camera

Cons: Smart media card has limitations on size, however, they are very cheap, buy several.

"Great pictures. Not user friendly" on

Pros: Great pictures. Night time pictures with flash not nearly as good as day time pictures. Excellent micro pics with great color. I like the rechargable AA's. I keep an extra set so there's never a battery waiting time.

Cons: TERRIBLE repeat with flash. Often have to wait up to 5-10 seconds so you lose many shots. Also red eye is poor when you use the red eye flash option. After 2 years the zoom button became very stiff and hard to use. Now for the worst complaint.THE MOST USE

    "2 Thumbs Up" on

Summary: We have owned our C-3020 for a year now & have been, for the most part very happy with it. The price has dropped over a hundred dollars on this in the last year. I beleive that for my next digiatl I will look for something with a higher optical zoom. 3x is pretty good but sometimes for the stuff we want to take pics of you can't get close enough for the object to mostly fill the screen. then when you crop to get the pic you really want, there goes the resolution. I can say that I have NOT experienced any of the negative comments posted previously about tis model. I would have preferred one of the models with the slide over lens cover, but a year ago, Olympus did not make a 3mp model of that style. with a 128Mb card this camera will take over 170 pics at the default resolution (1536x2048). Be reminded however that if you purchase a non Olympus card you will need to reinsert your original olympus card to take panaramic pics since that is a feature exclsive to Olympus media. We purchased the RayoVac 1 hour charger with the car kit for our NiMH batteries. That way when traveling we never run out of fresh batteries. (keep the extra set in charger) & with 170+ pics on our mem card, we have never run out of room while on a trip. If you want to see exactly what is in the pic (especially at edges) turn on the view screen, but usually we use the regular viewfinder to save on battery use. The way to get it to shoot instantly is to prefocus on your image by pushing the button halfway down, then when you completely press the button, the picture takes at that instant. I ahve also found that for indoor pics without flash, that my hand is not steady enough, since the shutter is open longer.
