"Very Good Point & Shoot" on by denochson

Pros: Small, Good Image Quality, 5x Optical Zoom

Cons: Doesn’t adjust well for florescent lighting

Summary: I think the editors’ review might be a little harsh. You should always use the right tool for the job. If you are a professional photographer you are probably not going to like the FE-240, but you probably aren’t looking for a “point & shoot” digital camera. I am a Project Manager, I manage data center infrastructure projects. I bought this camera to document progress on projects, it is an excellent tool for that purpose. It’s light weight and small (fits easily in a shirt pocket) and when I need to take a picture of something I just take it out, turn it on, zoom if necessary, and take the picture. The image quality is excellent, I can even position the camera within 12 inches of something with a small label on it, zoom in a little, and take a flash picture that produces a perfectly legible image, all without changing to macro mode or making any other setting adjustment. The only thing that I would fault the FE-240 on is it doesn’t adjust well for florescent lighting, if you don’t use the flash the color is odd. It takes outstanding outdoor images, with no effort, just turn it on and shoot, and the 5x optical zoom is better than the 3x zooms on most of the other point & shoot cameras in this size and price range. If you are looking for a good basic, easy to use, snapshot camera for about $200, you should take a look at the FE-240.

"The best digital camera I have ever owned." on by drumsonmars

Pros: Great for action shots, Amazing auto focus, Great for manual adjusments, Guided shots tells you how to set the camera to take certain shots

Cons: Making it touchscreen could have added a little flare

Summary: I recently returned from Japan. While I was there I purchased the FE-240. This camera takes amazing stills and has ridiculous video quality. Absolutely no lag on the videos(records with sound). Perfect for recording short movies, or long ones, all depending on your memory card. There is a setting for WHATEVER kind of picture you want to take, and if you set it the "Guide" mode, it will let you select wether or not you want to select the settings it reccomends for that certain picture. The zoom is pretty good, reasonable for its size, and the digital zoom is reliable. Takes no time to boot up and take a picture. VERY convenient. The only thing that miiight be different is the fact that it isn't touchsreen, but that doesn't really even matter. I would tell anyone to buy this camera.

"Pretty good POS" on by dcman1000

Pros: Quick, easy, fun, compact, and good for the price

Cons: Not as many features as I thought initially

Summary: The bottom line with this camera, as with any camera you buy, once you get used to it, you either love it or hate it and look for the next wave of cameras on the market. This camera doesn't disappoint one bit! I took loads of pictures in the late spring of '08 with this camera at a flower garden and people were stunned at the clarity of the pictures!

As mentioned earlier, maybe not as many special effects features I thought it would have, but it is a pretty nice POS to have and I am buying another Olympus just because of this one.

"Good compact camera" on by casper55x

Pros: Compact, easy use, good pics

    Cons: Grainy LCD screen

Summary: If you are looking for a point and shoot to carry around with you to have at all times like I was, this camera is perfect. It is small, sturdy and easy to use. It takes good pictures, I would recommend it to anyone. The only complaints I have are the slow shutter speed (of course we also have a nikon n70 which is SUPER fast) and the LCD screen is a bit on the grainy side.

But overall a good camera for what I wanted.

"Fun & veratile little camera" on by njm2

Pros: Small, light, solidly built, and a 5X lens

Cons: Slow and no manual controls

Summary: Some people want literally everything out of a digital camera these days. You have to consider what you're buying and why you bought it to begin with. The FE-240 is a well-built, solid little camera in a tiny package. It's rugged and fits easily into a shirt pocket. The 5X zoom is far better than the current 3X found on most ultracompacts. It takes decent quality pix that can easily be blown up to 8"X10".

In short, this is a fun pocket camera that you can carry anywhere and still take good pictures. I bought mine 2 months ago and am highly pleased with my purchase.
