"Excellent camera and value" on by Joanne McEwan
Pros: excellent images even at high ISO, accurate focus every shot, large LCD
Cons: slow shot-to-shot, somewhat slow focus in dim lighting
Summary: I own a Canon S2IS which I love, but it's too bulky too carry in the pocket. I bought and returned several Digital Cameras in the last three weeks because I'm really picky...
1)Olyumpus fe-120 (6M), excellent images almost on-par with this SP-310 and smaller physcal size which is what I wanted, but extremely slow in dim light ... returned camera.
2)Pentax Optio 60 (5M), very good daytime camera, but can not focus at all in dim light; useless ...returned.
3)Samsung v800 (8M), colors too vivid, good but not excellent images, very loud motor humm in video. Can not set fill-in flash in auto mode and too many small issues that IMHO Samsung is still 3-4 years behind the Japanese in camera tech...returned.
4)Fujifilm E900 (9M), worst image of them all; images are not very sharp and auto focus is slight off ... returned.
5)Olympus SP-310 (7M), excellent images as was the fe-120, even at ISO 325, the noise level is acceptable by my standard. It's slightly bulkier than the fe-120 though. Many good options & features, Large 2.5" LCD with additional optical viewfinder for use under bright sunlight. Excellent strong flash. In dim light, the auto focus is faster than the FE-120 but still somewhat slow in acquiring focus. Shot-to-shot time is about 3 seconds which is slow but is okay for my needs. I am keeping this camera as my pocket digicam. -
"Wonderful!" on by madhurya
Pros: Very Light, Great images, Nice feature set, Strong flash
Cons: xD Picture Card, no Antishake
Summary: Given the utter lack of user reviews for this camera, I felt like taking a risk by purchasing it. But, after about two weeks of using this camera, I couldn't be happier by this purchase.
This camera is extremely light, very compact, great ergonomics for one handed operation and produces wonderful images. use of standard AA batteries is a huge plus over the Canon SD cameras. And I can bet on the image quality being at par (if not better) than the canons. I can say this because I also own a SD300.
Presence of a nice big optical viewfinder in addition to such a HUGE LCD in a camera of this size is wonderful. The pictures make it look big and heavy, but it's size is comparable to the SDs (apart from the bulging right side) and it is even lighter than canon SD series cameras. The bulge in fact makes it even more useful for one handed operation.
The only con (apart from xD) is that this camera is so light that a shaking hand messes up the images, since it does not have Antishake. If you're even an amateur photographer with steady hands, this should not bother you. But for longer shutter exposures, it definately requires a tripod.
Overall, very very happy with this camera and I intend to keep it for a long long time, unless I lose it or break it part
. Would also highly recommend it. -
"GREAT CAMERA, HAS EVERYTHING(GREAT PICS TOO)" on by cangelo79
Pros: EVERYTHING ABOUT THE CAMERA
Cons: NONE SO FAR
Summary: **WOW**This camera is a great small digital camera, has a great LCD display which is very clear and large, measuring at 2.5inches. You dont even have to use the view finder. It's an amazing 7.1 mega pixels camera. It fits very well in the hand and feels very comfortaable. It also has 32 screen scenes for all types of picture you wish to take, indoor, outdoor fireworks, beach, documents, night, etc. (Name It- It has it- that type of scene picturing that you are attempting to take....great feature) I took a view pictures right out of the box and printed them on my canon ipx6600 (which is a awsome printed i might say!! and the picures looked second to dun) You can record video as well. The the SP-310 is set at an awsome price!!!($350), I'M TELLING YOU, IF YOU WANT SMALL AND VERY GOOD QUALITY, THIS DEF IS THE CAMERA FOR YOU WITH OUT A DOUBT!!!!

"Great Camera" on by smart shopper
Pros: 7.1 MP, 2.5" display, AF illuminator light & full manual controls
Cons: 3x optical zoom, XD card and slow write speeds
Summary: Overall, this is a great camera. It offers tons of features. The auto scene modes are handy for novice users but the option of full manual controls allow the user to take any type of picture. The camera is really compact which is easy to carry around. The buttons are well placed. The LCD display gains up very well in low lighting (the best I have seen so far from my prior cameras). The picture quality is really, really good. Pictures are sharp, well exposed and good color. I have read on StevesDigicams website that he had very short battery life with his camera however I had decent battery life using a set of rechargeable 2300 NIMH batteries. I was able to capture over 220 shots using the flash, LCD and full time auto focus. I think Steve might have received a faulty unit?? The only items I do not like is that in my opinion, a camera with these features should not come with just a 3x optical zoom. I do not like to use digital zoom since it brings down the image quality of the picture. The other thing I do not like is the sometimes slow write speed. If you use the max MP setting of 7.1, it does take the camera anywhere from 3-6 seconds to write to the card which is very slow compared to my previous Panasonic which had virtually no lag time inbetween shots. Overall, I highly recommend this camera for general photos and someone desiring full manual controls however for someone that wants a camera for sport shots or fast movement, I would go with another brand due to the slow write speed when using the max MP setting. The camera does have good write speed if using settings below 7.1.

"Has been a great camera for about 5 years now!" on by jnorr993
Pros: Takes great low light photos, exceptional battery life, clear and precise focus, ability to do some things manually
Cons: Slow to shoot (especially in low light conditions), motion shots are nearly impossible to catch unless you anticipate perfectly.
