"Excellent camera and value"
Pros: excellent images even at high ISO, accurate focus every shot, large LCD
Cons: slow shot-to-shot, somewhat slow focus in dim lighting
Summary: I own a Canon S2IS which I love, but it's too bulky too carry in the pocket. I bought and returned several Digital Cameras in the last three weeks because I'm really picky...
1)Olyumpus fe-120 (6M), excellent images almost on-par with this SP-310 and smaller physcal size which is what I wanted, but extremely slow in dim light ... returned camera.
2)Pentax Optio 60 (5M), very good daytime camera, but can not focus at all in dim light; useless ...returned.
3)Samsung v800 (8M), colors too vivid, good but not excellent images, very loud motor humm in video. Can not set fill-in flash in auto mode and too many small issues that IMHO Samsung is still 3-4 years behind the Japanese in camera tech...returned.
4)Fujifilm E900 (9M), worst image of them all; images are not very sharp and auto focus is slight off ... returned.
5)Olympus SP-310 (7M), excellent images as was the fe-120, even at ISO 325, the noise level is acceptable by my standard. It's slightly bulkier than the fe-120 though. Many good options & features, Large 2.5" LCD with additional optical viewfinder for use under bright sunlight. Excellent strong flash. In dim light, the auto focus is faster than the FE-120 but still somewhat slow in acquiring focus. Shot-to-shot time is about 3 seconds which is slow but is okay for my needs. I am keeping this camera as my pocket digicam.
