"The best part was the men who kept coming up to me to ask me if I knew what I was doing..."
Pros: Size, Pictures were bettter than expected.
Cons: No way to keep settings after turning off, sand creates challenges
Summary: I have to say that during my week in Maui, every single time I took my camera into the water, at least one man would come up to me and give me that condescending "little lady, you probably don't want to take your camera in the water..." message. It never failed. I should get money from Olympus for each time taking the time to explain the camera to each guy who thought he was saving me. That was fun. Honestly, I appreciated that so many folks care about me ruining my camera, but it was the way these guys were talking down to me that really made my day... Imagine their faces when I explained that the camera was waterproof to ten feet!
The downsides? If you set the camera, and it goes to sleep, or you turn it off, I could not find a way to have it remember the prior setting. There may be a way, but I couldn't find it. (admittedly, I didn't whip out the "advanced manual" CD and plow through it.) Another problem... Waterproof, yes. Sand proof? No. The camera was susceptible to getting sand in the lense mechanism, causing the automatic lense cover to either get caught in the open or closed position. To solve the problem, believe it or not, rinsing it out under a decent stream of water solved it, but it was a bit scary for a moment.
I have to say that the out of water pictures came out better than I expected. The underwater pictures were fine as well... I had better luck with the videos, as I had a hard time being steady in the pool, or the ocean...
Overall, it was worth the price, and was much fun for it's purpose. It doesn't have nearly the features of my other digitals, but for a point and shoot, it does the job.
