"Great camera!"
Pros: Ruggedized, big screen, great in available light
Cons: No viewfinder
Summary: I own 2 SLRs,1 film P&S and a 2 MPixel digital. Being an avid skier, I was always jealous of my friends flashing out of their breastpocket a neat little 5 Mp camera and snapping great shots. None of my cameras fit my breastpocket! My digital consumed batteries like a hungry dragon, so it was hardly ever available.
This camera is great! I shot 130 pics at high resolution, half of them with flash, just to test the battery capacity with one charge. It's good enough for me! (I carry a spare charged battery). The screen HAS A BRIGHTNESS SETTING. At maximum brightness, you can see it in the summer sun. Being somewhat presbyopic, I wish it had a viewfinder, but for this size, I'll just peer over my glasses (no bifocals for me..)
It does great shots with available light, indoors at the Herreshoff Museum, a boat shed really, I had better balanced shots WITHOUT FLASH ΤÎ?Î?Î? with it. A close up of 1 red cent is bigger on the screen than in real life! Perfectly focused!
I haven't read the manual yet, I'll take it on the laptop. The 25 shooting modes are perplexing, along with the navigation in the various menus. But I wanted a ruggedized Point & Shoot. So no knobs, no selectors! I'll live with that. I constantly shoot on no shake mode. I like the results.Updated
Coming back a year later, I am still pleased with the camera, HOWEVER...
In cold weather (sub-freezing)the battery dies in 3-4 shots...I have this problem with both batteries (1 Olympus and 1 of a different make). A friend has the same camera and claims that he can get as many pictures as he needs on the slopes. I always carry the camera in my inside breast pocket, so it is not left out in the cold the whole time.
