"Dual Image Stabilization makes a difference" on by vespa55

Pros: Dual Image Stabilization, Sturdy Metal Body, Weather Proof, images are decent, moderately sharp

Cons: Sluggish performance, dual image stabilization works and sometimes doesn't work, no full manual control of camera

Summary: I was looking for a decent point-and-shoot camera because I was tired of lugging my DSLR to casual occasions. I sold my Canon SD700IS (biggest mistake I've made last year) so I can afford a few pro lenses I was interested in. Then I forgot how handy a point-and-shoot camera is to have. So I didn't want to spend DSLR body prices for a point-and-shoot camera with IS (Canon sure is pricey). So I came across the Olympus Stylus 760. My girlfriend owns an Olympus FE-230 and it only has digital image stabilization which just boosts the ISO and shutter speeds resulting in noise-filled pictures. Using the Stylus 760, I was surprised how low the noise levels were for low light pictures that I took. The pictures I took were considerably sharp, colors were okay but fixable during post processing. The image stabilizer seemed to work 60% of the time (even with a steady aim - Canon's IS is by far the best I've seen yet for point-and-shoot cameras) - but for the money I was paying for, you get the most bang for your buck. No full manual controls like aperture or shutter speed control. Nonetheless, it's great for point-and-shoot photography. I wasn't expecting DSLR results from a point-and-shoot camera anyway. The Stylus 760 gets my thumbs up and if you're not willing to shell out almost $400-500 on a point-and-shoot with 7+ megapixels and an image stabilizer, the Olympus Stylus 760 is on my top 5 list of good point-and-shoot cameras.

"Lower your standard from perfection & its a great deal" on by ncbchbum

Pros: For the money, I can't find anything to gripe about. I wasn't expecting DSLR capabilities when I bought this but have been very pleased with performance & durability.

    Cons: See Above.

Summary: Have owned 4 or 5 Olympus cameras over the years and have taken plenty of pics both film & digital. Am not a pro but do know my way around the menus and how to tweek shots for best results. Love the size of the 760 and most pictures have turned out very good. A few have benefitted from post processing using iphoto. As with most cameras the trick is to be aware of what you want from a shot, adjust your camera if necessary for best results and take several shots that u can work with. I just recently purchased the PT-036 underwater housing for this unit and the Olympus UFL-1 underwater strobe and am looking forward to seeing the results of underwater photography using this system. Bottom line is that this is a very capable camera for all but the perfectionist.

    "blurry. always" on by jills323

    Pros: it's light? i don't know.

Cons: i keep resetting to default but every picture i take is blurry. like a motion blur most of the time. i hate it. i'm just kind of pissed and i can't figure out how to fix it and keep trying to look online for advice but I'm not finding any. sigh.

Summary: I wouldn't bother. Maybe I got one junk one, but this camera just sucks.

"same problem over and over" on by rttryi

    Pros: small, compact

    Cons: same problem with focusing

Summary: I bought this camera because I have an Olympus camedia 2.1 that worked great for years. Well I thought I would move up to a 7 meg camera and of course I would stick with Olympus. I bought the 760 thinking I was getting a great camera. I didn't use the camera for a few months when I bought it. When I finally did I noticed that about every other picture was coming out blurry. So I played with it and found that something was wrong. I took it back to Best buy and they weren't much help so I sent the camera back to Olympus. They sent it back about 6 weeks later and said they cleaned it and adjusted it, which didn't do anything. So I finally tried to take it back to Best Buy and complained enough till they finally said they would send it back to Olympus. 6 weeks later I got it back and it seemed to work OK, they said they changed out the lens assembly, but a few months later it seems to be not focusing properly again sometimes. And it seems Best Buy knew there was a problem with this camera. So it seems I am going to wind up having to go buy a new camera if I want one that is reliable.
