"The best travel camera ever!"
Pros: 28mm wide angle, image stabilization, 3.6x zoom, very small, available underwater housing.
Cons: no manual mode
Summary: OK - I said the same about the FX-01 when I reviewed that camera here. But that makes sense because the FX-30 is a direct descendant of the FX-01 (and the FX-07). So I refer you to that review and will concentrate on the differences here:
1) It is thinner by about 2mm. That does not seem like much, but it makes a difference in the pocket.
2) It has a new mode: intelligent ISO. It is much better than the old "Auto" mode as it takes in account the motion of the subject and adjusts the aperture, shutter speed, ISO sensitivity to suit, and does a great job.
3) because it is thinner, all of the controls are slightly smaller and the OIS mode button is gone from the top of the camera (no loss).
4) because it is thinner, it takes a new battery - just like the old one but thinner so they do not interchange.
5) the new "Venus III" processor does a better job of reducing picture noise at high ISO and is easier on the battery. This is what the mfr says but I could actually notice the difference.
6) I got the underwater housing for this camera. It cost as much as the camera (a little more actually) but is really well engineered. I am looking forward to taking this diving in Mexico this winter.
