"Latest and widest Lumix compact"
Pros: 10+megapixel, 16:9 wide shooting mode, Leica optics, hdtv video setting, night shooting, build quality
Cons: Few manual settings, some distortion on super wide shots
Summary: I bought this camera for a replacement to an older Lumix compact. Lumix has added every imaginable shooting mode with the added comfort of a smart mode for correct exposure and etc. Even though it doesn't offer very much manual control, it takes great photos. The 25mm wide angle is helpful with large landscapes. It could be considered a nice little second camera for a serious photographer or a great all round camera for a casual user.
With the hdtv quality video, there is little reason to carry a camcorder along on your travels, unless you plan to shoot lots of video. It fits well into a pocket or carry on bag, which makes it easy to travel with. SLRs take excellent photos but can be a burden and possible target for theft when traveling. This little camera has much of the power found in an SLR in a smart little bit of kit.
I like well designed, smart products and see this camera as one of the best in it's spec and size. It also has one of the longest shutter speeds in a compact for night shots. It's a Leica for the budget minded photographer. The size is excellent and built very well. There's not much to complain about except for some distortion shooting wide photos. Noise is much better than other cameras in it's size. I recommend this one. Buy it.
