"Delivers Lousy Sharpness for an 8 mp Camera!"
Pros: 28mm Wide Angle Zoom and Big LCD Display
Cons: VERY FUZZY GRAINY PHOTOS and Inadequate Image Stabilization
Summary: This camera SHOULD deliver outstanding photos! It is far from cheap and features an expensive Leica wide angle zoom lens, an advanced 3rd generation digital image processor, and a MEGA Optical Image Stabilization system that works very well on other of Panasonic's cameras. But I am profoundly disappointed with the inferior photographic quality it yields relative to its cost, build quality, and components. I can't imagine how Panasonic engineers managed to botch the design of this camera as badly as they have, judging by the very unsatisfactory results that my FX55 is delivering. I own several other point and shoot digital cameras including a cheaper, less expensively made 5 mp Panasonic LZ3 which is not nearly as pocketable, but is a whole lot sharper! And it's OIS works WAY better! Also, as most reviews of the FX55 point out, the photographic graininess caused by excessive noise even at the lowest sensitivity setting is very poor. I had been a big fan of Panasonic digital cameras prior to getting this camera. But now, having had such an extremely disappointing experience with the FX55, I recommend that prospective buyers look to other models and possibly to Canon and Sony for better photographic quality and value.
