Summary It was a toss up between the Panasonic FZ100 or the latest Finepix HS10 and i'll be honest, the Lumix only won because it had an automatic zoom. I was in the market for a Finepix as I already had the much older s8000fd and I loved it.Edit Link
Well I won't look back as the Panasonic Lumix is a highly capable camera, i've been impressed by the features and the ease of use it offers. There are a lot of features on this camera so it will take you some time to learn them all but each one serves a great purpose, just the other night i was taking photos of the moon at over 60X zoom and the quality is incredible, even at 3 megapixels! and i didn't have to fiddle with apertures and ISO settings, I simply switched it to "night scene" and the camera did the rest for me!
I consider myself to be a still life photographer and this camera has excelled at Macro shots of flowers and amazingly at landscapes, the most prominent thing to meet the eye is the amazing sharpness of the images, each line crisp and well defined with an amazing depth of view.
I'm not going to bore you with every detail but i think this camera will have something to offer any photographer at any level and is a great camera if you wish to learn more about photography.
Videos are easily taken with the click of a button, an absolutely fantastic idea to have a separate video record button and videos are of a very clean and crisp quality like i've not seen before!
There are only three criticisms I have about the lumix and it would be wrong for me not to mention them, firstly the button you use for taking photos doesn't have a robust feel to it, when you hold it half way down to focus you're not always sure if you're pressing it with adequate pressure. Secondly the handle grip is not as ergonomic as it was on my previous Finepix, however it isn't so uncomfortable as to become a problem as such and finally, if you do not have a good graphics card on your laptop or PC, the images will not be shown at their full potential, i first of all uploaded my images to my laptop and was very unimpressed, however when i uploaded the images to my higher spec PC i was knocked back by them (this is not really the cameras fault).
Finally the clincher for me was the swivel screen which offers you a massive amount of freedom to take shots at awkward angles, this increases the scope of what kind of pictures you can take (without having to lie on the floor).
Overall, as i think you can see from my review? this camera is well worth the money and a good competitor to the Finepix HS10 and i have no regrets with my choice. Highly Recommended!

I suggest you have to check for best price before you buy this camera at: DMC-FZ100.hit.to
Pros 1. vastly improved autofocus, much faster than previous models VERY important for kids and wildlife
2. much better flash, not overblown like in previous models
3. amazing burst mode (11 shots per second? holy toledo!)
Cons yes, still the same problems with picture quality, but nothing a little editing won't fix and with 14 megapixels you can still get great 8X10s out of it
Summary I have owned the FZ35, the FZ50 and now the FZ100. Yes, the picture quality has not improved, but at 14.1 megapixels, you can do some adjustment yourself and still print nice 8X10s out of them.
Second, no one seems to mention the improvements they DID do.
1. the autofocus is lightning fast compared to previous models, VERY important for catching hyper kids (mine) or wildlife, great, great improvement.
2. the flash actually works now, not overblown as in previous models.
these two improvements along with the incredible speed of actually taking pictures and the amazing burst modes put it head and shoulders above the competition, IMHO
Pros i love the flip out screen it is so useful for shooting! also i love the 24x zoom great! 1080i video is so super duper! great quality! finally 11fps. with full 14mp. quality! how much quicker can you get?! great focus
Cons not a very high iso level... and loses jpeg quality after iso 400
Summary PLEASE JUST GET IT NOW! it does almost everything. it has so many creative modes and filters to choose from which makes it great for in camera editing! also the optical viewfinder is great! my favorite part is the focusing mode dial on the lens! it makes it so quick for you to change your focus priority without having to go through a long menu. 1080i video quality is just amazing, especially for macro! it has no trouble keeping the focus while recording moving objects! PLEASE GET IT NOWW!
Pros It's easy and simple to operate. It's 24x optical zoom is very good. With it's POWER O.I.S, I can take good picture even at full 24x zoom hand handled or without using the tripod. It's Full HD Video is excellent.
Cons It's a daylight with sunny day digital camera. It's image quality taken during cloudy days is not very good. I have not figured out how to set a program with back lighting from it's menus. It's a bit pricy for a point and shoot digital camera.
Summary I think it's better to have or include the Video Mode in the Mode Selector Wheel. I found it stop recording videos after taking a few still photos and videos. I wonder why because I'd never experience this with my other simple digital Sony DSC-HX5V camera. As an amateur photographer, maybe I've still a lot more to learn about using this Panasonic fz100. I've not try to take pictures of sunrise or sunset yet. On sunny day, the image quality is very good even at full 24x optical zoom or full 32x Inteligent zoom. Close-up pictures of flowers, insects, dragon fly, frogs etc. are very good.
Pros Everything and it has Leica lens!
Leica is just the main brand in photography.
Cons Nothing. It has everything in the right size.
Summary It is the best in this category. No comparation with any other.
